From David Frums Diary, NOV. 19, 2002: GORE SPEAKS, based upon an ABC interview. The words are by Karenna Gore. They're talking about the 2000 election dispute.

He [her father] said, "We have to do what's best for the country, and it is not good for the country to have this kind of divisiveness. And he was on the phone, really calling off the dogs. There were people who wanted to fan the ... the flames of the racial issue and have real unrest. And he was on the phone asking them not to, because of what was best for the country not because of what was best for him politically. And that's really who he is. [My emphasis. End excerpt]

There are people still happily fanning the flames. A long hot summer coming?

I think the race baiters are getting desperate and stirring the pot.

Best I can tell from my rung of the white middle class strata is that most people just don’t give a crap about race anymore. It’s not an issue for us. I really don’t care. I treat everyone with the same respect. If my respect isn’t good enough for some and they wish to call it racism, then it’s tough titty, I really don’t care.
