Oliver Wendell Holmes, III was of the opinion that laws have to evolve naturally from the people rather than be imposed by the ruler according to the ruler’s whim. The present Illegal Immigration Amnesty discussion could well be seen as law imposed by the ruler, and it wouldn’t last if imposed. Something will give: probably the membership of the Congress will be in upheaval at the next election cycle.

Well, let's hope the law gets a stake through its heart this week - and still let's have that political upheaval of yours. The ONLY saving grace is that these illegals aren't actually made citizens right away, otherwise they'd be able to vote next year. As it is, when President Thompson takes office on 1/20/09 with a conservative, anti-illegal immigration Congress in place, the law and those Z Visas can be repealed.
