I agree. What are we doing defending the legitimacy of a communist dictatorship? If they want to free their country, I don't think that ought to be against American law.

Retired California National Guard Lt. Col. Harrison Jack, a 1968 West Point graduate who was involved in covert operations during the Vietnam War, was described as a leader of the group and the arms broker for the effort. But only for one weekend a month a two weeks in the summer...

Yeah... the federal authorities decided these people who fought for us need to be locked up. That's how we treat our friends.

No kidding, sounds like one of Reagan's guys.
Crazy, once we did stand up to Communist countries, now we trade with them.

I agree. An overthrow of the communist government of Laos would predictably have repercussions for the whole continent.

Hmong resistance in Laos collapsed in 1975 when the United States ended its military involvement in Southeast Asia. Shouldn't that read, "When the Democrats withdrew funding for our allies and threw them to the wolves?"

When someone like Condi Rice says that the government must have a monopoly on the use of force, obviously the people lose their right to revolt. I have been around some of these people, though not known to be Hmong. This idea that the US is a fair weather friend which is not to be trusted is also current in Pakistan. I hope this gets lots of coverage aimed at those who think our withdrawal from Vietnam was so wonderful. People are still running away from those communists.

This is a nice example of when the federal government should learn to look the other way.

Yep. Its amazing where our taxpayer dollars go. It couldn't go towards finding and deporting illegal aliens. Nah - its too hard to find them. But we managed to find a couple of Hmong in no time when we put our minds to it. Makes you wonder about our national priorities.

The overthrow of the Communist Laotian Government should be the stated public policy of the U.S. Government, and encouragement and financing should be supplied.
Locking up opponents of totalitarian dictatorships is bad policy.

I agree. Since when does the U.S government care what goes on in Laos? I would think that would be of no interest to them. But people fighting for their freedom bother our officials greatly. It reveals their talk of encouraging freedom around the world is just cynical propaganda. We are for it as long as no one acts upon it.

Especially when they fought for us. Washington has no memory and no conscience. No wonder our friends distrust us so much.

It seems to me that the justice department is undermining the frequent allegation that the illegals are all just hard working good people. I doubt that this is an accident.
