Feds Stop Plane, Arrest Suspect In Dragging Death

(CBS4) FT. LAUDERDALE Federal agents took away a man who had boarded a Greece-bound jetliner after the Broward Sheriff's Office accused him of running down and dragging a woman for miles until she died this weekend.

Broward Sheriff Ken Jenne said 24-year-old Abdelaziz Hamze was taken from Delta flight 132, bound from New York's JFK airport to Greece, after BSO was given a tip he was the driver of the car which killed 44-year-old Sandra Hall Sunday night.

Hall was angry that her car had been hit by a driver who sped away, and was killed after the she chased down the driver of the white minivan, which had hit her car at Peters Road and State Route 7 in Ft. Lauderdale, then got out of the car in Lauderdale Lakes to confront the man behind the wheel.

As the male passenger inside her car watched in horror, police say Hamze smashed into the angry victim, who was trapped under the minivan and dragged for miles into North Lauderdale, before her lifeless body finally dropped from the undercarriage of the van.

BSO investigators said Hall was dead when she was found in the street.

Disconsolate family members begged someone to come forward and identify the killer, and Monday afternoon, someone did.

"The Broward Sheriff's office got a phone call from a man who knew the suspect," Jenne said, "The man who sold the white van to the suspect, and the sale was several months ago."

Investigators recovered the van from a residence in Dania Beach, where they believe Hamze had been living, and examined the van, which was damaged in the front and bloodied on the hood.

"The undercarriage of the van carries blood, gristle, and other body parts," Jenne said, "making it clear that the body, or a body, was there."

Jenne said Hall's companion at the time of the accident was able to identify Hamze.

Investigators learned Hamze, who has a home in Coral Springs, had flown to New York and planning to fly on to Greece.

Jenne said federal border control officials cooperated in their request to stop Hamze before he left the country, and the Delta flight, which was on the taxiway to depart, was returned to the gate.

Hamze, an American citizen born in Lebanon, was taken into custody and is being held by federal officials until BSO detectives arrive to question him.

Sheriff Jenne said Hamze confessed to the person who sold him the van that he had hit Hall, and said that Hamze would face first degree murder charges because investigators believed his actions showed he intended to kill Hall.

"You have to understand that this woman was hanging with blood going all over on the hood of the van for miles going 70 miles per hour at 10 o'clock in the evening on 441; that's premeditated, so at this point we're charging him with homicide."

Jenne said it was important to stop Hamze before he left the country, because it would have been nearly impossible to get him back. It's believed Hamze's ultimate destination may have been Lebanon.

The news of the arrest was important to Hall's family.

"They need to solve it before I solve it," said Michael Williams, Sandra Hall's fiancé, had said earlier in the day.

Nicole Hall, Hall's daughter-in-law, said she was a mother to the whole family. Nicole Hall's mother, Theresa Campbell, said Sandra Hall loved to cook. "She will be missed. Even to the homeless," Campbell said. "It always happens to the good ones."

It's not known when Hamze might be returned to South Florida.

This is disturbing. And what really upsets me is that I heard about some Hilton POS on every stinking newscast I heard today, but not this.

They need to bring ol’ Sparky out of mothballs. They stopped using it because some murderer’s head caught on fire. My question is, why is this a problem? This guy is the perfect reason to fire that baby back up.

Could this be terror related? He’s driving a white mini-van (known to be a favorite of the ROP), he accidentally hits someone and rather than sticking around for a cop to get a simple ticket, he takes off?

Then he hit and drags her when he’s confronted “by a woman” no less. Then, has the resources to get on a plane to NY and then t Greece? That’s some big dollars for that plane ticket.

This has Terror operative whose cover was about to be blown because of a traffic accident all over it. Could be nothing, but i’d be going over this guy with a double fine tooth comb!

Guess she made the mistake of thinking that a guy who would take off after bashing her car would just sit there and listen to an unarmed, weaker female read him the riot act.

A practioner of the religion of peace who was offended that a woman would dare question him?

but i’d be going over this guy with a double fine tooth comb!

It's called a "nit-pick", and is used to comb out baby lice ('nits') and unhatched eggs.

This louse, after combing, really needs a major dose of Rid®.

Religion of Pieces. I’m pretty sure that it says in the Koran that you can drag a woman to death with your mini van if she isn’t wearing her burka.

Some Lebanese are Christians. Can we tell—by his name?—that ABDELAZZIZ is a Muslim? I don’t know. Any experts out there?

Saw his mug, and his Talibeard & hair scream, “MUZZIE!”...but, it could also just be a fashion statement.

The name Abdelazziz means “servant of the Almighty” in Arabic and I’m not sure we can tell whether he’s Christian or Muslim from the name. From his behavior, it would seem mostly likely the latter.
