Mike Nifong is now a defendant.
And Collin Finnerty will be there to watch him face justice.
Internationally known as the rogue prosecutor who improperly pursued rape charges against Finnerty and two other Duke University lacrosse players, the Durham, N.C., district attorney is now listed on the North Carolina State Bar docket -- on a list of the accused.
Nifong's trial on ethics charges will begin at 10 a.m. next Tuesday, June 12, in the Court of Appeals Building in downtown Raleigh, the bar association's executive director, Thomas Lunsford, said in a Monday interview.
Nifong plans take the stand to testify in his own defense, Kevin Finnerty of Garden City, Collin's father, said Monday.
"That means he will have to go through cross-examination and that could produce some interesting testimony," Kevin Finnerty said.
Nifong's trial comes after the North Carlina Attorney General Roy Cooper in April took the rare step of publicly declaring the innocence of those accused, as he dropped the charges against them.
The three had been accused by an exotic dancer of raping and holding her captive at an off-campus lacrosse team party March 13, 2006.
Asked Monday how his son feels about Nifong facing a trial that could end his career in shame, Kevin Finnerty said, "I think people are looking for justice to be served and that's all we're hoping for."

I predicted that he would get away with it. I hope I’m wrong. Until he goes to jail justice will not be done.
Well, he’s not at risk of going to jail from this proceeding, and so far, it doesn’t look like he is at risk of going to jail at all.
No one seems to care much about what Nifong, DPD, DUMC, and Duke University did, as far as I can tell.
The emphasis so far seems to be on “moving on” and “healing”.
That is, sweep it all under the rug and pretend...
