Poll: Bush Base Erodes on Immigration Debate
Fewer than half of Republicans, 45 percent in this ABC News/Washington Post poll, now approve of how Bush is handling immigration, down from 61 percent in April that's a 16-point drop in six weeks. Just 35 percent of conservatives approve, down from 48 percent.
Among all Americans, just 29 percent now approve of his handling of immigration, a career low.
That 29% figure is right around what his overall job approval rating is.
it's very disappointing that this many conservatives approve of President Bush's handling of immigration. With the seriousness of this issue, I thought more would be informed. This weekend I talked to more neighbors that were fully aware of the destruction this bill will do to our Republic. If anywhere near 35% of conservatives support this, then I don't know how it will be stopped. I hope the poll question skewed the results.
29 percent is too high: it should be 10 percent if people were truly informed.
