Sandy Berger and the Clinton Cover-Up - Why It Matters
realclearpolitics.com ^ | June 04, 2007 | Ronald A. Cass

Posted on 06/04/2007 1:32:17 AM PDT by neverdem

On May 17th, Sandy Berger, President Bill Clinton's National Security Adviser, voluntarily gave up his law license and with it the right to practice law. That is a stunning move for an accomplished lawyer, one of the nation's most influential public officials. Someone should take note. In fact, everyone should.

Berger previously entered a deal with the Department of Justice after he was caught stealing and destroying highly sensitive classified material regarding the Clinton Administration's handling of terrorism issues. That deal allowed him to avoid jail time, pay a modest fine, and keep his law license. It also allowed him to avoid full explanation of what he had taken and why he had taken it.

What information was worth risking his reputation, his career, and his freedom to keep hidden? And who was he risking that for?

Recently, the Board of the DC Bar, which had granted Berger his license, began asking those questions. There was only one way to stop that investigation, to keep from answering questions about what he did and why he did it, to keep the Bar from questioning his colleagues in the Clinton Administration about what had been in the documents Berger destroyed.

Berger took that step, surrendering his license, and stopping the investigation.

Ordinarily, anyone who has spent the time, effort, and money needed to master one of the "learned professions" fights with the utmost determination to keep his license. That is not merely a ticket to practice your chosen profession - it is also a badge of honor and accomplishment. Ask any doctor or lawyer, any architect or CPA, any professional at all, what it means to give that up.

That Berger didn't fight speaks volumes.

. . .but many suspect that before he left he likely destroyed the originals at Lindsey’s request.

. . .soooo; if Berger is now untouchable by Justice Department, et al. . .than could we at least make a go, of Bruce Lindsey or John Carlin? Sieze their old computers. . .phone records. . .monies. . .whatever. . . .

Give Bruce, John AND Sandy, truth serum at Starbucks. . .while creating Reality TV moment. . .whatEVER. . .

We need a man, like John Bolton. . .

It’s dawned on me for the first time that maybe the Bushes agreed to ignore any Clinton wrongdoings as a price for Clinton/Gore dropping any further legal preceedings after the 2000 elections.

That’s all I can think of. That a deal had to be struck a long time ago where the Bushes agreed not to prosecute anything the Clintons (and their minions) did as a concession for the Clintons not making a stink over something huge.

This is consistent with the lack of interest of the Justice Dept. to accept the offer of a polygraph exam of burgler.

Burgler thru the plea deals offered to present himself for the polygraph, but Justice never took him up on this ‘offer.’

strange ?

Your tagline so true. Best one.

Somebody wondered if mentally challenged Paris Hilton got a harsher punishment than Sandy Berger.

Think it was more than an offer on the Burgler's part. Believe it was part of the plea deal that he 'take the polygraph'. Burgler agreed; they made the deal; supposedly with 'polygraph' to be taken. . .later (sure. it was). . .

It no doubt, just gave additional legitimacy to 'deal' made; but no more than dressing for those who might otherwise, give scrutiny here.

The double-whammy here is that Scooter took most of the media attention; and the 'real scandal' got little ink by comparison. Scooter is indicted. . .a 'safe call' is made against Sandy.

Kudos to the Demrat Architects of Deceit here. They really know, how to manipulate the system. . .of course, it seems they 'own' it. . .

Strange? Yes. . .and No. . .but disgusting and demoralizing; for sure.

Have wondeed about this; old FBI files. . .Mother/Father. . .WHAT? But the truth is; you cannot make a 'deal' with a Leftist; not for long anyway; before the guaranteed 'deal'. . .would be broken. What can these people offer; their word? What do they have to lose? Their integrity? They are morally bankrupt; nothing to lose here; so think Bush would have been outed by now. . .

But hey. . .who knows? I do think Bush truly believes that 'Good' manifests from 'Good'; and that you can love 'your enemies' and somehow; it will account for something - make a difference. Migh have worked; had their not been so many. . .

Or maybe; Bush just got 'stuck on stupid' when it came to recognizing/dealing with the enemy at his doorstep. . .

It's almost embarassing considering all the access we have to candidates and their staffs. I have friends on almost all the campaigns. I've signed on with no one. I'll make up my mind by Aug 11--the day of the straw poll.

They're all willing to pick us up by bus, feed us, entertain us and pay for our tickets.

My favorite candidate (for one night) was Huckabee. He brought Paul Shanklin to town with him. We even got free Shanklin CDs. Now if Paul Shanklin were running, he'd be my man. Just kidding:)
