On May 17th, Sandy Berger, President Bill Clinton's National Security Adviser, voluntarily gave up his law license and with it the right to practice law. That is a stunning move for an accomplished lawyer, one of the nation's most influential public officials. Someone should take note. In fact, everyone should.
Berger previously entered a deal with the Department of Justice after he was caught stealing and destroying highly sensitive classified material regarding the Clinton Administration's handling of terrorism issues. That deal allowed him to avoid jail time, pay a modest fine, and keep his law license. It also allowed him to avoid full explanation of what he had taken and why he had taken it.
What information was worth risking his reputation, his career, and his freedom to keep hidden? And who was he risking that for?
Recently, the Board of the DC Bar, which had granted Berger his license, began asking those questions. There was only one way to stop that investigation, to keep from answering questions about what he did and why he did it, to keep the Bar from questioning his colleagues in the Clinton Administration about what had been in the documents Berger destroyed.
Berger took that step, surrendering his license, and stopping the investigation.
Ordinarily, anyone who has spent the time, effort, and money needed to master one of the "learned professions" fights with the utmost determination to keep his license. That is not merely a ticket to practice your chosen profession - it is also a badge of honor and accomplishment. Ask any doctor or lawyer, any architect or CPA, any professional at all, what it means to give that up.
That Berger didn't fight speaks volumes.

Oh HORSECRAP!
They didn’t even try!
Do you think for one moment if it had been Karl Rove doing the same thing that the Democrats would have shuffled it under the rug like this?
The Bush administration did SHUFFLE IT UNDER THE RUG. They make it go away just as quickly and as quietly as they possibly could.
And THAT angers me.
Worse, the Bush Administration seems to go out of their way to avoid having anything of substance from the Clinton years surface.
If I were the paranoid type, I'd wonder why W covers for them....
I have often wondered about that myself.
Thanks. . .and yes, hear that often; but perhaps I need a 'government lesson' or find a new 'civics' book; but cannot the President do ANYthing here to change the idiological demographics of the Justice Department?
And given that. . .why, rather then 'hearing' this. . .or your having to ask. . .were not the Repubs screaming about this 'Justice Mutiny' and what Leftist, machiavellian efforts were/are. . .being marshalled against Bush Administration. . .
Good grief; this insanity brings to mind the wisdom question - 'if a tree falls in the forest; does it make a sound, if there is no one there to hear it'. . .
Can only think; that 'if a tree falls. . .and that 'someone' in the forest is a Republican; they will not hear it; no matter what. . .
‘then’=than; just for the record ;^)
Sandy Burglar like the Klintoons and their minions will never have to worry about serving a day behind bars because the Klintoons have a J.Edgar Hoover insurance policy.
“Honey, I knew those copies of F.B.I. files would come in handy.”
The day he took office he should have sacked ALL Clinton holdovers.
He didn’t and they’ve worked against him ever since.
In hindsight, I note that the Republicans were complying with Democrats on this while the Democrats were secretly keeping information on Mark Foley until just the right time to dump it on the mid-term elections and swing Congress to the Democrats.
When will Republicans learn to never trust the Democrats? What did it get them? They "saved" Sandy Berger and got backstabbed in Congress anyway.

Of course, and 'for sure'. For Repubs and by the hands of Demrats; it is 'death by a thousand cuts'.
Too late smart; and DOA for our Party in Congressional Election. . .and if that is not enough. . .more of the same coming our way as we prepare for 'next' round.
For a while they misinterpreted my question to mean that I was interested in their candidates position regarding energy and I corrected all of them and emphasized that I was asking from the standpoint of a Republican being interested in defeating Democrats in elections and wondering why they have failed to use the issue. This is a winning issue IF we keep beating the idiot voters over their heads that it is the DEMOCRATS who are blocking new production of oil and the building of refineries.
I pointed out that Republicans have earned the title of the "Stupid" party.
Nice work.
Also many wonder what fake ‘documents’ burgler introduced into these files to make bubba look better.
.
LOL!
Good post potlatch!
I woke up - could not get back to sleep - saw this thread that needed some comic relief.
Thank you on the graphic.
I don’t do enough reading, never thought of him putting documents in the files! Interesting.
Your comic relief post probably woke you up for the rest of the day, lol.
That music I posted will WAKE YOU UP now!!

LOL!
Good choice of music!
Naturally!!
Lol, I made Berger 'shake' a bit. Did you notice?
Berger would be in Levenworth except for Pres. Bush.. and the Berger scandal says more about Bush than about Berger..
Many should be asking who in the hell is President Bush not what was Sandy up to.. Bush covered up Sandys doings like a cat in the cat box.. Eyes should be inspecting Bush NOT Berger.. How does George Bush and Sandy Berger get on the same team?.. Unless a third party owns them BOTH...
Thanks Seadog. That’s a cute one you posted!
