Well, from a military point of view, it WAS a great Mexican victory. In fact I believe the assault on the Alamo was for a long time held up in military circles as the textbook example of how to storm a fortified position.

I wouldn't make too much of the Mexican army at the Alamo, remember that this is the same army (and perhaps the only army ever) to have been soundly defeated by the French.
