GREENVILLE, S.C., and PHOENIX - In South Carolina last week during the congressional break, Sen. Lindsey Graham generally avoided crowds. Likewise Sen. Jon Kyl, back home in Arizona, scheduled no public appearances, instead huddling with party officials in Phoenix.
It could not have been an easy week for the two GOP senators, key brokers of the compromise immigration-reform bill that has infuriated so many of their red-state constituents. How well they and other senators in the hot seat endured the heat may become clear when the Senate resumes debate on the bill this week and whether the amendments to come are designed mainly to alter it or, rather, to kill it.
The week at home made one thing evident: Senators who back this measure, especially Republicans, are taking a calculated risk.
To some, they are traitors and sellouts, offering "amnesty" to illegal immigrants who broke the law by crossing into the US. Angry constituents promise repercussions at the ballot box, and political analysts say those are not empty threats.
"Among a lot of Republicans, there's been intensely negative reaction directed against the Republican senators who have been involved with [the bill]," says Merle Black, a political scientist at Emory University in Atlanta and coauthor of the book "Divided America." Though the Republican senators "are saying that they're actually responsible for most of the conservative parts of the bill, they're not seen that way by their supporters."

Then in a couple of years, we are able to support bona fide Conservatives but the question is would we have the momentum to do anything by then?
It's going to be a long couple of years no matter what the Republican base decides to do.
“I’m tired of it. I really am.
Sorry for my rant.”
Entirely understandable. Rant away!
Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." -Manuel II Paleologus
“Oh, you think the only illegal aliens are mexicans? What gave you that idea? There are many illegals here that are NOT mexican “
Never said that. Your 300 million number is hogwash though.
It's not "MY" 300 million number, asshat, it was another guys, and yes, you did say that it was only a mexican problem by implying it when you posted the fact there are only 108 million Mexicans in Mexico. This implies, nay, it screams, that you believe the only illegals here are Mexicans. Don't try to spin it now and don't try to attribute someone else's numbers to me.
“This implies, nay, it screams, that you believe the only illegals here are Mexicans. Don’t try to spin it now and don’t try to attribute someone else’s numbers to me.”
I did say there were only 108 million people in Mexico. That was to point out the 300 million illegals was a vast exaggeration. Read my other posts as well. The majority of illegals are from mexico. China is usually second in most other studies. Other south-american countries are there at the upper end and also other parts of asia.
So much for screaming though.
Lindsey Graham in hiding from the people he needs to send him back to DC. Not good.
I disagree. Because he’s not going back to DC.
I will believe it when I see it. Both Ben Nelson from Florida and Murtha from Pennsylvania were supposed to be gone this last election and won easily. The only ones that did not want those two back in power were FREEPERS...of course we are the only ones with sense.
Fortunately, South Carolina is a far different place than Florida or Pennsylvania. If amnesty passes, Twinkle Toes is toast next go ‘round. Real southerners will only put up with this much jack*ssedness for so long.
Sounds to me like the Magic Negro’s primed to vote for the amnesty, and doesn’t give a rat’s ass what Illinois voters think about it. When the most idiotic of the Democrat candidates says, “I agree with President Bush”, that ought to tell the rest of us how incredibly stupid the President’s stance is on this.
Dear Lord,
I realize so many of us have not been behaving in a way that would warrant your answering our prayers. However, we appeal to your great mercy that you hear and answer us favorably anyway. We repent for our sins and shortcomings and seek your help in living more for you and according to your priorities.
Lord, this immigration/border sieve/globalist world government tyrannical nonsense is getting worse deeper . . .
Please spare us a longer.
Lord, may each traitorous Senator and house member fall in the pit they are digging for the country—first. May all their traitorous evil hearted junk tumble in on them and every member of their immediate family in sympathy with such.
May their complicities be exposed. May their insanities be exposed. May their traitorousness be exposed. May their evil hearts be exposed. May their stupidities be exposed.
May the compliciies of the main stream media be exposed.
May they make public statements increasingly transparent vis a vis their traitorous evil hearts. May they make increasingly stupid comments in public in prime time.
May the true Christian patriots rise in influence and in articulate sensibleness. May they provide alternative legislation that will be widely acclaimed and easily passed and enforced.
This and all your Spirit would pray, Oh, Lord, we ask in Jesus’ Name.
Amen.
May all who care to pray in agreement in part or whole, do so.
