The “anti-G8” protestors are largely disgruntled socialists that have been in retreat all over the world in recent years. They may be down, but by no means counted out yet.

Right now, their objective is to make common cause with the militant Islamic Jihadists. The disgruntled socialists think the Jihadists owe them something.

The Jihadists have no such illusions about the socialists.

"German riot police runs in front of a burning barricade during clashes with protesters at an anti-G8 demonstration in Rostock June 2, 2007. Protesters threw stones and bottles and attacked police officers with sticks in the German port of Rostock on Saturday. A group of around 500 demonstrators set upon police near the harbour after a series of marches through the city in which police said 25,000 people took part." REUTERS/Fabrizio Bensch (GERMANY)

Carsten Smid told Reuters: "It was about Africa, climate change and poverty

Greenpeace is pretty far ashore; not many whales in Rostock. They would like to say Global Civil Society, but they aren't at all sure GCS is still in business even though it is.

"It was about Africa, climate change and poverty, but there was another face to the demonstration, where we had to bow to violent protesters which we couldn't change. Our de-escalation tactic failed. "

Greepeace. Hah. You idiots could have predicted this. Anytime you have a demo like this, the lunatics are going to start throwing rocks.

They are so peaceful and tolerant that, if you disagree with them, they will riot and then kill you.

Ah yes. (1) a peaceful assembly for the redress of grievances:(2) which assumes those organizing said assemblies have grievances and will be peaceful;(3) surely by now after 75 years of street protests the idiot public should have learned that street “meetings” invariably end in riots with loss of life and property damage;(4) people expect organized governments to keep the pesce which means in cases like this: (5) an order to disperse;(6) which if followed by the mobs failure to disperse then;(7) about ten helicopter gunships armed with vulcan machine guns sweep the mob; (8) End of riots!

“About 1,000 people were injured in the riots.... Police said 433 officers were injured in the clashes, 30 seriously.”

Almost half of the injured were police officers? What a stupid security detail. Squash that riot.

Or were 1,000 PROTESTERS injured and another 433 officers injured (for 1,400 total injuries)?

Ah, yes! We were told to expect the “peaceful” train of protesters to come through our city (here in Germany) on their way to the G9 meetings, but of curse they are expected to be peaceful! Yeah, right! In whose dreams. Anybody with even a toe to the ground, let alone an ear to the ground, already knew this was not supposed to be peaceful!!!
