Thompson sees fence between Congress, voters

RICHMOND -- Former Sen. Fred Thompson yesterday said there is a giant disconnect between voters and politicians in Washington and that the immigration bill is the chief reason. Speaking to Virginia Republicans, Mr. Thompson, who is considering a run for president, drew a standing ovation when he said voters don't believe Washington politicians when they claim they are trying to secure the border as part of the bill. "You've got to secure the border first, before you do anything," he said. "The members say it's right here in this bill: the border. The response is, 'We don't care what's on a piece of paper -- secure the border.' This piece of paper doesn't secure the border." Mr. Thompson said the new bill is "the same deal" offered in the 1986 amnesty -- legalization of illegal aliens in exchange for border security -- but said Americans won't be fooled again. He also said the program is unworkable because it relies on an already overworked immigration service to process millions of new applications

So, you’re saying Thompson is patient and a very shrewd tactician, right? LOL

and that the immigration bill is the chief reason

I rather believe it to be the chief result.

Maybe I’m completely out of step, but it seems to me that “secure the border first” doesn't quite hit the mark. The fundamental issue is we don’t want people in this country who have such casual disdain for the law. It should be the top priority that these criminals should be in jail or deported along with those who enable their being here.

And without a secure border, they turn around and come back in.

Lock down the borders, then step up enforcement, throw some bigwig employers in jail and illegals will start heading for home, allowing us to CHOOSE who we want in our country.

How about a list of the things Congress cares about?

1. Getting reelected.
2. Making money.
3. Taking the public’s money.
4. Special interest groups.
5. Getting reelected.
6. Protecting their image.
7. Kissing the asses of minorities.
8. ........

The American people need to send the current US Congress packing at the first opportunity. This gaggle of anti-American, anti-military Liberals and RINOs need to be sent back to the real world. They’ve been living in their ivory towers too long.

If you shut down the reason they come (jobs, welfare, etc.) the border becomes far reasier and cheaper to secure.

am beginning to WORRY about this “Fred! FRED!” mania. Why?

EXCERPTS: - Go to Drudge Report and click to the original article... Key Bush backers rally to Fred Thompson By: Mike Allen Jun 4, 2007 02:22 PM EST ... George P. Bush, a nephew of President Bush, has contributed to the prospective presidential campaign of Fred Thompson and signed an e-mail asking friends and associates to do the same, ...

The involvement of a Bush family member highlights a stream of former Bush-Cheney aides and supporters who are signing on with Thompson, in some cases quietly...

I say cancel the Thompson show. Not another 4 more years of Bush!

There has been a flurry of rumors that the Jeb Bush contingent was going to about to buy tickets to ride the Fred Thompson Express. Now I'm wondering: does Fred not know that the Bushites don't take kindly to criticism of this amnesty program?

BTW, I think Fred is spot on, and I applaud him. However, I would like to see some evidence that he can persuade senators and congressmen to his views. He didn't show much of a knack for it as a senator, getting only four bills passed out of roughly 100 that he sponsored in his eight years as a senator.

I truly hope he catches fire and can show the leadership in real life that he portrays on television. He's right on the issues.
