The real success story of dotcom.:-) Almost no entry barrier, and near-perfect competition. Perhaps textbooks of economics 101 should cite Internet porn as a real-life example of perfect competition.

Am I supposed to feel sorry for the porn industry or should I be happy? I don’t think this is a winner any way you look at it.

Real actual sex is a threat to their business.
They wanted to “change the culture” — but only so much.
To: SteveMcKing
They wanted to change the culture but only so much. To become a trend-setter and make tons of money. They set the trend alright, but now they could no longer make enough money.:-) Too bad, beaten in their own game. Has to happen eventually.

Porn encourages reproductive behavior? Who would have thought? ;-)

So they do as music traders do, they bootleg. They sell for money the “independent producers” work (self porn, stolen tapes, etc).
They know that few victims of the theft want to show their faces in court and go on record about it.

The money isn’t leaving the industry, it is hitting the channels that are outside of the establishment’s tracking.
Just like “album sales” are down even though much music is still being bought.

There is no intellectual property issue involved. The story is not about bootleg video, but on people doing for themselves, their own equipment, and their own “body.” Still it sells.
To: TigerLikesRooster
With so much of it available via file sharing services, only the real porn freaks collect it in vast amounts.
OTOH, 500/750/1000GB drives are selling fast. So you know they're filling them with media, most of it from p2p/torrent networks.
To: TigerLikesRooster
One political benefit to this: the pornography industry won’t be able to contribute as much to Hillary anymore.

And unlike consumers looking for music and other media, viewers of pornography do not seem to mind giving up brand-name producers and performers for anonymous ones Geez..How many people actually know by name the producers of this crap?! It's over for the porno pros. On the Internet, porn is now basically free. What a shame. The San Fernando porn industry is dying.
