I did not think you were condescending, nor did I believe you needed to apologize. Your posts are always interesting and well-written. I simply wanted to point out that believers are usually wrong when they presume to know that non-believers are really just believers-in-denial. I see that as a variation of the old fallacy that “there are no atheists in foxholes.”
Many thanks for the kind words. They mean a great deal to me. Hitchens fascinates me - he is, in my opinion, a deeply conflicted individual struggling with intellectual issues that are fully worthy of the fight, hindered by alcohol and perhaps by fame as well. He can be nasty and vituperative as his comments regarding Mother Teresa and Jerry Falwell (for whom I have no particular liking myself but
de mortuis nil nisi bonum) indicate. But there is something of worth there, I think, or maybe I'm only kidding myself.
