Old Possum, I am not one of the young ones. My race here is about run. Like you I feel sorry for the young ones. But to me 10 years can go as fast as snapping one’s fingers. I though that I would never reach 21, then the next 50 years seem like yesterday.
So long as they don’t mess with American Idol there will never be an uprising by the American people.
The American people will never rebell over something as insignificant to them as their loss of freedom.
Hell, they voluntarily surrender these to the Government. In the guise of being made or kept more “secure”.
Ahmeddinejad or whatever the hell his name is could write “To Jorge With Love, Ahmeddinejad” on amissile and nothing would happen.
This is the difference between a man and the individualin the White House now. When Ronald Reagan won the Election for President, Ahmed and his buddies IMMEDIATELY released the American hostages.
They KNW that joke about “What is flat, black and glows in the dark” wouldn;t be so funny if Ronnie took over and those hostages were still prisoners.
They can read people pretty well. And they have read the Euroweenies and Bush thoroughly.
I think, sport, that we have lived through the best part of American history. We have seen and benefited from the huge increase in prosperity, massive growth in technology (think of the improvements in cars, development of computers and other electronic gear), our fathers went out to fight "the good war", and in our younger years we didn't have a Big Brother government slowly taking away our freedoms (hell, when I was young I could go down to the hardware store and buy any gun I wanted and didn't fill out single form...try that now),
I can't get out of my mind a snippet from that 60's song (or was it 70's?), "Big Yellow Taxi": "You don't know what you've lost until it's gone."
“....when I was young I could go down to the hardware store and buy any gun I wanted and didn’t fill out single form...try that now)”,
And if it was a rifle or shotgun you could walk down the street carrying it to your car. No one said anything. If the policeman drove by he would just wave hello at you and keep driving. Or that is what would happen in my town.
