The antiwar, pro-gold, libertarian presidential candidate Ron Paul tells me he would rather be riding his bicycle than speaking to another reporter on a Thursday afternoon. "My vice is that I'm obsessed with exercise," says the Republican congressman from Texas.
But running for president does not exactly disagree with him. All day long, he has been hustling from one press appearance to the next, a high-energy bundle packed into a lithe 71-year-old frame. His brown eyes sparkle with fire as he blurts out one big adjective after another. "Preposterous," he says of Rudy Giuliani, who accused Paul in mid-May of blaming America for the attacks of Sept. 11.

The RP folks have a “Holier than Thou” attitude. Only they can read the Constitution and truly understand. Only they can use words like “Liberty” in the proper way. I’m beginning to believe that it would be best to just ignore these folks.
Debating them makes zero sense. It's has the sense of a junior high election for class president....L Ron Paul wants a vending machine in the lobby and an end to the prom. (unless it admits gays, then he's OK with that)
Mocking them on the other hand is great fun...Where is that old picture of the blue libertarian????
what term? constitutional duty.
Ron Paul wants to give Al Qaeda the 'victory' they want in Iraq....something that would be a major rallying point for Islamic Fundamentalists everywhere.
Of course, his 'purity' of thought prevents him from understanding the stupidity of the act.
Don’t bet, you’ll get cheated.
Oh, I do for the most part. Well, sometimes I can't resist posting a picture of RuPaul or David Koresh or something on their cult threads, but every now and then, to be fair, I give them the benefit of the doubt and see if they've learned to debate like adults.
They never let me down. Ask them one question they don't like and the snarling and ripping of flesh begins.
So, since they've earned nothing better, it's back to the RuPaul and David Koresh pictures. ;-)
There was a libertarian on the Pennsylvania sub-forum who just could not stop attacking anyone who didn't agree with him 100%.
This guy wanted Rick Santorum to lose his senate seat because he was violating the constitution by voting for federal spending.
Some of these libertarians are real whackos.
PS: The guy on the PA sub-forum got banned.
Perhaps we can leave Iraq, when Bush is President. Declare victory. Hussein is gone. Victory! Democracy in Iraq. Victory!
I’ll admit that I don’t follow the Iraq situation as closely as many, but all I seem to hear from the 30% or so who still support the war is don’t “cut and run” don’t “surrender”. Sure, nobody wants to cut and run or surrender, but I honestly don’t know exactly what we’re still doing there. What objective do we need to accomplish?
I’ve heard from war supporters that we’re still in Iraq so that our soliders can get shot by terrorists. Otherwise, those terrorists would come to the US and kill us. Is that why we’re still there, so US soliders can die?
How do we define victory then? Either they’re all dead or we’re all dead? Kill em all?
Apparently, things aren’t entirely wonderful in Iraq these days. Another argument in favor of our continued presence in Iraq is that we stay until it becomes wonderful. That’s more reasonable. Personally, I don’t care how wonderful it is in Iraq. We got rid of Hussein, gave them democracy, it’s unfortunate that there’s a bit more lawlessness than we would like. The “stay until Iraq is a nice place to raise a family” argument is a decent one, as opposed to the horrifying “send wave after wave of men” argument. How about setting some benchmarks? Some way to measure success?
If x,y,x happens (or doesn’t happen) Iraq is officially sufficiently nice, and we can leave.
I just don’t think anyone knows anymore why we’re there.
So, declare VICTORY! No more Hussein! Victory! No WMD’s anymore! Victory! Democracy! Bring the troops home! Ticker tape parades! Flag waving! A little Iraqi child says “Thank you George Bush for giving me Democracy and Hope, and ridding my country of that evil bad man Saddam Hussein” on the TV show “Salute to our troops and George Bush”
We WIN. Bush’s numbers go up. Republicans win in 2008.
Or, pointless, confusing war that doesn’t seem to be getting much better and won’t be helping Republicans in 2008.
I call it a Constitutional response to an Act of War against this country. Paul wants a formal Declaration of War against any country that knowingly harbors AQ or related entities.
So do I. That's a hell of a lot better than pretending the Saudi royal family is our 'friend' when over half of them openly support terrorists.
Paul wants Letters of Marque and Reprisal issued against AQ and its supporters. I think that's a darn fine idea. Put a bounty on their asses and let anyone with the resources to do so hunt them down. It'd be a damn sight better than posting silly reward posters in Pashtun promising a bunch of illiterate goat herders unimaginable (for them) amounts of money.
I know it's all so silly and outdated wanting the Federal Government to actually follow the Constitution, but I think it might be a good idea to give it a try for the first time in 60 years.
L
Constitution Yes. The last time we declared war, we won it. But then again we had a draft, no rotations, Rosie the Riveter, food and gas rationing, war bonds to pay for it, and a President who could rally the nation behind the war because everyone knew there was a war on and had someone in uniform.
Wow. Sounds like CNN's been doing a number on the citizenry.
Apparently, things arent entirely wonderful in Iraq these days.
Well, you know...it's summertime. Heat, sandstorms...I've certainly been in better vacation resorts.
How about setting some benchmarks? Some way to measure success?
There are metrics and benchmarks set. However, the situation just isn't as black and white as some would like for it to be. It's not a TV show where it can be wrapped up all nice and neat in a prescribed amount of time. When has any new democracy been set in cement after four or five years? Not even our own was free of insurgency problems right away.
That being said, there is a large and complex government transition program underway and it is seeing great success. We'd like to finish that, please.
I just dont think anyone knows anymore why were there.
Oh, plenty of us know. And plenty know how far the progress has come. It is a sickening concept to a huge majority of our deployed troops to just go off and leave at this juncture.
Sorry about the flippancy. I've already tried to debate a couple of Paul fans rationally today. It's late I'm on overload.
Now, here is the question I have been trying to get a response to and have so far received a lot of great sidestep dancing moves.
We are already in a war situation. It is too late to go back to 2003 and do it differently. So let's talk the present. What does Ron Paul propose that we do to rectify the fact that we are already engaged?
LOL...and thanks! :-)
Nuff said. You are a LIAR...
He wanted a Declaration of War and for us to fight it AS a war. Not this "democracy" building police action that is being drawn out needlessly. If you are going to fight, fight. Piss or get off the pot.
How hard is that for you people to understand?
Have you read the Constitution with all of the ratified amendments?
ROFL! And you are the epitome of a cultist. You're funny when you get your ass handed to you. Would you like a silver platter to go with that?
Classy comeback there, by the way. LOL!!
