Peggy Noonan and The WSJ Editorial - It's Time to Revolt!
Red State ^ | June 1, 2007

However, now I do not feel alone. Peggy Noonan has a new column up in the Wall Street Journal Opinion Journal. She has clearly said what has been getting me down. I think I knew what was up, but couldn't put a finger on it. I knew it centered around the immigration debate, and the way our congressional leaders are behaving. That sentiment especially includes Mr. Bush too, but when I read this column, I felt like Charlie Brown yelling at Lucy at her Psychology booth when he yells, "That's it!" when trying to identify why he can't get into the Christmas spirit.

Try this clip on for size :

The White House doesn't need its traditional supporters anymore, because its problems are way beyond being solved by the base. And the people in the administration don't even much like the base. Desperate straits have left them liberated, and they are acting out their disdain. Leading Democrats often think their base is slightly mad but at least their heart is in the right place. This White House thinks its base is stupid and that its heart is in the wrong place.

For almost three years, arguably longer, conservative Bush supporters have felt like sufferers of battered wife syndrome. You don't like endless gushing spending, the kind that assumes a high and unstoppable affluence will always exist, and the tax receipts will always flow in? Too bad! You don't like expanding governmental authority and power? Too bad. You think the war was wrong or is wrong? Too bad.

But on immigration it has changed from "Too bad" to "You're bad."

The president has taken to suggesting that opponents of his immigration bill are unpatriotic--they "don't want to do what's right for America." His ally Sen. Lindsey Graham has said,

I cannot send the law suit papers to “Iwo Jima” in Texas!

Oh, sure you can. I'm famous, didn't you know? Just send those papers on down. Trust me, everybody knows who I am.

I might add, they also know who you are. They know all about this dispute. And they know just exactly how they're going to rule.

I hate to tell you, but you have already lost. Big time. The jury has assessed $250,000 against you as damages for frivolous litigation.

So sorry.

If you were very bright you would know when to give up on a losing course of action.

Just give it up. It's not worth it.

Rolling on the floor laughing. I just cannot stop laughing. I will call my colleagues at work in Houston Texas on Monday and ask them “tell me about Mr. Iwo Jima, I heard that he is more famous than President G W Bush down in Texas”. I am sure that they will spend the whole day telling me that how great you are. :)

O.K., here's the thing. Just between you and me.

The name is George W. Bush from Crawford, Texas. I'll tell the folks to be on the look-out for you on Monday.

Now don't go spreading that around everywhere,O.K.?

BTW, I don't think that I got your name and address. I jjust like to reciprocate with thank you notes and such.

Peggy revolted long ago. She described the SOU speech about three years ago as having “too much God”. I knew then her sensibilities wouldn’t allow her continued support for the Bush administration. Nothing new here at all.

You really have me blushing big time now. The very thought of you and your colleagues discussing me and my accomplishments an entire day is enough to make me squirm.

But, truth be told, I don't know how you could reasonably do it in less time.

I am sure my colleagues in Houston will leave everything they are doing to talk about you, and I will do the same on my end :)

I'm sure that they would. But why should they?

You want to call a truce?

Yes, he probably will. He can make it a class action lawsuit against anyone who opposes George W. Bush. It should be a big class. He's making it bigger all the time.

I've already told him that he can perfect service on George W. Bush in Crawford, Texas.

Maybe the President could hire him. He could be Attorney General and sue anyone that said anything bad about the President. They could pay off the national debt with the settlements.

I’m a little surprised really, but I shouldn’t be. It’s the way of things on FR.

This article by Peggy Noonan was one of the best timed, and most powerful that I have ever had the pleasure to read. You know the WH is smarting over this.

Truce it is.

I’ll tell the folks around the ranch at Crawford that they shouldn’t be on the look-out for your process servers. That will make them happy. They are so weary of process servers.

And your colleagues won't have to sit around and discuss how great a person I am. That does make me blush so, the modest person that I am.

Good deal all around.
