Peggy Noonan and The WSJ Editorial - It's Time to Revolt!
Red State ^ | June 1, 2007

However, now I do not feel alone. Peggy Noonan has a new column up in the Wall Street Journal Opinion Journal. She has clearly said what has been getting me down. I think I knew what was up, but couldn't put a finger on it. I knew it centered around the immigration debate, and the way our congressional leaders are behaving. That sentiment especially includes Mr. Bush too, but when I read this column, I felt like Charlie Brown yelling at Lucy at her Psychology booth when he yells, "That's it!" when trying to identify why he can't get into the Christmas spirit.

Try this clip on for size :

The White House doesn't need its traditional supporters anymore, because its problems are way beyond being solved by the base. And the people in the administration don't even much like the base. Desperate straits have left them liberated, and they are acting out their disdain. Leading Democrats often think their base is slightly mad but at least their heart is in the right place. This White House thinks its base is stupid and that its heart is in the wrong place.

For almost three years, arguably longer, conservative Bush supporters have felt like sufferers of battered wife syndrome. You don't like endless gushing spending, the kind that assumes a high and unstoppable affluence will always exist, and the tax receipts will always flow in? Too bad! You don't like expanding governmental authority and power? Too bad. You think the war was wrong or is wrong? Too bad.

But on immigration it has changed from "Too bad" to "You're bad."

The president has taken to suggesting that opponents of his immigration bill are unpatriotic--they "don't want to do what's right for America." His ally Sen. Lindsey Graham has said,

Iwo Jima Said:

"I have very much have a problem with that. You are clearly not of the caliber to be a U.S. citizen.

Where were you born? Where are you a citizen of? Why do you know Arabic so well? Are you Islamic?

We don’t need any additional “citizens” like you. Let me know who you are, and I will oppose any application for citizenship. I will work to expose you so that we don't get saddled with an un-American citizen like you.

So, you have given interpretations of Arabic texts? Well, fine, but who has interpreted your interpretations of those texts? How do we know that you have not been giving wrongful interpretations to serve your Islamic purposes?

You are not an American, and I do not trust you."

You are shame for this forum, a shame for America, you are a bigot and a racist.

The problem is that there is no incentive to assimilate into our culture. Here's the result. On a plane from Spokane to Vegas, I sat next to a 12 year old hispanic boy traveling to El Paso to get back to Mexico to visit his relatives for the summer. His parents were illegals working in the central Washington apple industry. I asked him when the US plays Mexico in soccer, which team does he want to win. His answer... "Mexico, of course". .I then asked him if the US ever went to war against Mexico, which country would he want to win... he said "Mexico, I am Mexican". That is the problem!!!!

He speaks for a majority of the 12Million illegals and their families. Oh, by the way, he said he has relatives in Las Vegas.. and many in San Diego... surprised?

Yeah, too bad we choose to encourage those who refuse to assimilate. My best friend was from a family from Mexico that came here legally. They had to endlessly study for tests which my mother helped him with. His dad worked very hard and reported for work every day at a LEGAL (sorry habit) job. Sorry to say some of his relatives were not legal and did not share the same affinity for being an American.

I said: I mean Cheney should quit and let Bush appoint a good successor, then Bush should quit and let the newly appointed VP take over before it is too late.

And you said: You know, that actually might work. Good idea!

It is a good idea and here is good idea for George Bush so that he can save face: As Bush resigns he can say that we are not worthy of his leadership and that he will not subject himself anymore to being affiliated with a bunch of non-patriots (his words) that make up the majority of the Republican party. All Cheney has to say is that he wants to spend time with his family and that he does not feel well.

To use the words of a politician, "It would be a Win-Win situation."

My dad was a first generation Polish American. He had to learn English quickly in order to survive, let alone work, in the pre-welfare, pre-great society America. When I was growing up, my siblings and I endured every Polish joke known to man (no political correctness cops back then) and were made stronger because of it. My dad was proud of his Polish ancestry (as are we, his offspring) but more proud to have been an American, fighting in WWII and flying a flag til the day he died.

I am sure he is rolling over in his grave at what this country, that he so proudly risked his life for, is becoming. BTW, he was a Roosevelt Democrat then became one of Ronald Reagan’s greatest supporters... he would always say of Reagan... “that’s my boy!”.

clinton might do that with telling the USCIS to simply approve all applications.

It is like the fired Justice Department lawyer out of the 9th circus who simply REFUSED to do any immigration enforcement.

Poland is very nice today, I always liked the fact they defeated the red army. Without them Europe would probably be a different place.

Dane,

No response? Perhaps you heard your mother calling.

Anyway, can we pick up where we left off in Post 535?

“Let me ask you a question. Would you benefit personally or financially if it were made easier for illegal aliens to remain in America?”
