She complained about him referencing God in the State of the Union a few years ago, not talking about immigration. You do not know what you are talking about, so it is no surprise you would defend Noonan when she complains of God being referenced.

Look. I understand that tempers are flaring up on both sides of this discussion.

I voted for the man twice. First time around it was a “lesser of two evils” sort of vote. The second time, because I was frightened of the WoT being handled (or rather not handled) by Senator “Served In Vietnam”.

I have watched incompetence on a grand scale in how this administration has dealt with the Democrats. How they have refused to defend the War on Terror, and not call out the Democrats as the defeatists they are, time and time again.

Through it all, I have supported him.

However, to hear the condescension in his voice towards his loyal base! The same people who make up his 38% approval rating(!) was too much to bear when he refuses to use such harsh words against the left.

But I will say this. I have lost what respect I had for the man due to this. He is no different than Clinton in this regard who thought that the “little people” were ignorant. He has been sheltered for his entire life. I doubt he has had to face any of the same challenges that the rest of us have had to.

This is one big difference between the Presidents Bush and President Reagan. Reagan WAS one of us before he made it big. He understood what it was like to go to work and really work hard. What it felt like when the government took money from your pocket and handed it to someone else. I am not clear that Presidents Bush understands that same level of compassion Reagan had for us “working stiffs” when he issued the Tax Cuts.

It is evident to some of us now that the current President Bush has no more respect for us than did President Clinton.

You usually expect politicians to politely tell you pleasantries and then stab you in the back. You don’t expect them however to insult you and stab you in the heart.

And I think the anger you see here jveritas is because of that. That’s why it’s hard to argue the merits of the argument without tempers flaring up, on what is normally a fairly calm forum. We’ve been insulted and kicked in the arse by a man we supported.

When did the President call you UNPATRIOTIC. Stop lying people, just stop lying. I have never seen so much lies and distortions on our side as I have seen in the last 2 weeks.

Now I know what the villagers yelled at the little kid who said 'the Emperor has no clothes'

If you need constant cheerleading and excuses for this administration then you better find out where the Bush sycophants moved to.

“I, along with plenty of others, know that President Bush does what he believes is right - not from political calculation and use of focus groups, but from a deep, abiding Faith in the Lord.”

Our nation is founded upon a rule of law. Radical murdering jihadists are abiding in their faith in their Lord too.

Our founding fathers made sure to seperate the rule of law from any specific religious convictions. IOWs, religion takes a back seat to the rule of law.

Be sure tonight to thank the Lord our forefathers weren’t muslims.

Now all we have to do is defend what they sacrificed to leave us.

-—As I said, it’s got all the makings of a catastrophic election season in 2008 for the GOP. There’s still time to rescue the situation, but we’re really getting to Hail Mary time, as far as I’m concerned.-—

I was optimistic after the two GOP debates that we really did have the talent up there to rally the faithful and crush the Dims.

Then I was optimistic that this bill could never pass, that it would be seen as a Bush aberration. Then I started to realize that we were being mostly ignored, so what’s to stop this madness.

Then I read Bush’s speech of the 29th (http://www.whitehouse.gov/infocus/immigration/) and started thinking along the same lines as Peggy Noonan. This is not simply about the amnesty bill, it’s about utter contempt for the conservative wing of the party. We’re Whiggin’ out!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whig_Party_(United_States)

“The party was ultimately destroyed by the question of whether to allow the expansion of slavery to the territories. Deep fissures in the party on this question led the party to run Winfield Scott over its own incumbent President Fillmore in the U.S. presidential election of 1852. The Whig Party never elected another President. Its leaders either quit politics (as Lincoln did temporarily) or changed parties. The voter base defected to the Republican Party, various coalition parties in some states, and to the Democratic Party.”

I have been supportive of Bush throughout his presidency. However on the issue of amnesty for illegal aliens, he is way off the beam. Having said that, I believe this is going to be a unifying issue for the conservative movement. After all is said and done, this bill will be defeated and will become a major issue in 2008 presidential politics, as it should be!

I remember the Harry and Louise ads that were used to defeat Hillary care in 94-95. I look at the opposition to this current bill building and will bring it to a huge defeat. The Heritage Foundation has started running ads opposing this bill and soon others will follow suit. And the grassroots efforts of average Americans across the country will become a major uprising. This issue has the potential to cut across party lines.

After this bill is soundly thrashed , Bush will escape being blamed throughout history for this almost boondoggle and will be remembered instead for his real legacy, transforming the middle east and fighting the war on terror. I am still confident when the dust clears over there in Iraq, he will come out smelling like a rose.

Thanks. No one is perfect and I understand that. I am not always agree with everything GW does or says, but I will always support him because he is my POTUS. I do not like everything my kids or wife does but I stand by them and support them too.

It amazes me that the same freepers that decry GW, worship Reagan when he GAVE A REAL AMNESTY with no border enforcement, ran from Lebanon when our sleeping Marines were blown up while they slept and appointed O'Connor to the SCOTUS and she was a disaster because she voted with the rats half the time. All of this is unimportant to freepers here though because Reagan was a conservative.

On social issues, President Bush is more Conservative than President Reagan and yes President Bush did not run away from the islamic terrorists. Many people say “what will President Reagan do with the illegal immigration issue?”. Oh that is an easy answer he will sign an amnesty bill for all of them as he did sign it in 1986.

It’s the “new tone”...and from his daddy the “NWO”.
AND, the NAU.

I don’t like it any better than you do.

Right now, he scares me to death.

BTW, GOOD post.

“You guys live in a delusional world.”

Actually we aren’t delusional at all. You see, we can still identify an illusionalist when we see one. Herein lies your problem. “You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.”

It’s your dilemma. Deal with it.

Now all we have to do is defend what they sacrificed to leave us.

Our brave troops under the command and leadership of President Bush have been doing this for many years now, in the heart of the Middle East, in Iraq and Afghanistan and elsewhere.

God bless President Bush and our brave troops.

I, along with plenty of others, know that President Bush does what he believes is right - not from political calculation and use of focus groups, but from a deep, abiding Faith in the Lord.

The Lord does not exhort us to lawlessness. Lawlessness is what reigns on the border now (and has for a long time), lawlessness is what this amnesty bill rewards, and lawlessness is what this amnesty bill will further encourage, as did the last amnesty bill that was, like this one, going to solve the illegal alien problem once and for all.

“Bush is terribly wrong on this issue. He will destroy the country and the GOP if he is successful. I could care less about his motivation. It is the result I am concerned about.”

This bill needs to be defeated big time. We would be doing Bush a huge favor by saving him from being viewed historically as on of the worst presidents of all time. Let that honor remain with Carter and Clinton.

I applaud your very fair and excellent post despite that we disagree on the illegal immigration issue and whether the Presient is right or not in his approach.

What is saddening me a lot are those incredible savage attacks on the President from many on this forum. Calling the President a traitor and shouting for his impeachment are now very accepted and normal posts by so many freepers.

I think of it as “grandiose incompetence”, like planting that monsterous embassy with 5 foot thick walls in Baghdad as a symbol of democracy in the Middleast, or saying that people who opposed the amnesty bill didn’t care enough about the country. It’s not a little off. It’s floating in deep space off.

And yes, it is scary.
