When I caught on to their curious views about the truth and the concept of honesty was when I spent some time in Morocco. Not only would they lie to your face, in the presence of evidence to the contrary, but they would steal you blind given half a chance. They were constantly attempting to short-change us, and we had to go over the hotel bill and restaurant bills with a fine-tooth comb to avoid being ripped off. Once they tried to charge the two of us for a dinner for 12, which we declined to pay, thinking we were too dumb to convert the currency. And Morocco is a relatively friendly and civilized place compared to some Arab countries. I actually enjoyed my time there, except for the constant realization that I was being cheated.
