She was 13 when Pearl Harbor was bombed.
FIVE of her brothers were in WWII simultaneously.
She and one her older sisters played in an all-girl orchestra for the troop trains and USO shows as well as when the ships began bringing the more seriously injured troops home.
The guys coming down the gangways were a bit unresponsive, due various injuries and drugs.
They asked their bandleader what they should do.
She said, “they haven’t seen pretty girls in a long time...just smile and play your hearts out”....which they did.
My Mom cried the whole next day.
