ESCONDIDO A man was shot and killed by a Border Patrol agent early Thursday morning in North County, authorities said.
The shooting occured around 12:36 a.m. at Mountain Meadow Road and Champagne Boulevard in an unincorporated area north of Escondido, just east of Interstate 15, a sheriff's spokeswoman said.
Sheriff's Sgt. Roy Frank told reporters that undercover Border Patrol agents had tracked a car from El Cajon and pulled it over near Escondido, arresting the driver and suspected illegal immigrants who were inside.
After those agents left the scene, one Border Patrol agent remained at the intersection and a second vehicle drove up.
The agent got into an altercation with that driver, who ran into a field. After a second altercation in the field, the man was shot.
It was unclear if the second vehicle was related to the first car.
The suspect ran into a nearby field. The agent called for assistance from allied agencies. During that time he was able to catch up to the suspect (and) a second altercation occurred, Frank told KNSD Channel 7/39. During that time, he discharged his firearm and shot the suspect.
A traffic alert has been issued for the area because investigators will be on the scene for several hours. Drivers are being urged to find alternate routes.
This poor S.O.B. will probably get the chair. We can’t execute Charles Manson but a Border Patrol Agent who shoots an illegal is toast in this country. I pity him.
I don’t see how these guys continue to do this job. This guy is in for a world of s-— from the ACLU, Amnesty Int’l, Jesse Jackson, Bush, you name it.
If only this amnesty deal would pass, then we wouldn’t have Border Patrol people harrassing these folks and............ if only one life could be saved, amnesty would be worth it. (do I really need a sarcasm tag?)
If our government thinks that punishing this person will further their agenda, they are nuts. It would be in their best PR interests to let this agent go unharmed.
This poor S.O.B. will probably get the chair.
::::
This is a classic example, and very realistic, that shows how perverted and arrogant this administration is about supporting ILLEGAL MEXICANS as opposed to our own people, those protecting this country. Add this to the growing pile of border guards, doing their job, THE JOB OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, who have been prosecuted for protecting America and enfocing its laws. It is a sick situation being driven by sick people.
I wonder if Bush will go anti-American on this Border Patrolman...like he did on Ramos and Compean.
Makes me wonder why these officers even attempt to do the job anymore. Everytime they try to enforce the law or control the borders, they get screwed.
This will be totally misinterpreted by the Federal prosecutor that will be charged with punishing the Border Patrol in this instance. The agent is already convicted and sentenced, with the show trial to begin “soon”. If you thought Jose Alonso Compean and Ignacio Ramos got a raw deal, this agent is a dead man walking.
My sympathies to the border agent. The agent’s going to need a lot of support.
Oh, just a man? No reason for the mean ol’ BP to be chasing him and firing upon this innocent man? Interesting the article left out the poor man was a smuggler and drug runner and tried to fight the BP for his weapon. Yep, just another poor innocent fellow who the evil BP killed in cold blood.
I’m sure his trial date is already set....
And Bush will do nothing to help him.
Is the Border Guard indicted yet?
Bush has been sickeningly lame as of late.

Border Patrol agent kills man after parking lot scuffle
A Border Patrol agent on Thursday shot and killed a man who tried to grab his gun in a remote dirt lot, authorities said.
The agent and victim scuffled in a parking lot in Escondido, about 30 miles north of San Diego, and again in an adjacent lot after the victim tried to run away, said San Diego County Sheriff’s Sgt. Roy Frank. He did not know how many shots were fired or where the victim was struck.
The victim was a Hispanic man and believed to be in his 30s, Frank said. The agent had tried to handcuff him after a records search identified him as an illegal immigrant.
Shortly before midnight, undercover Border Patrol agents began following a 1991 Ford Aerostar van that was suspected of carrying illegal immigrants in suburban El Cajon. When the van pulled over about 30 miles north in Escondido, agents arrested the driver and 11 passengers and took them to a Border Patrol station.
The man who was killed pulled alongside the undercover agent who stayed behind to wait for a tow truck, Frank said. The fight began after the agent went to talk to the man in his 1992 Mitsubishi Expo and identified him as an illegal immigrant.
It was unclear if the driver who was killed was connected to the van full of suspected illegal immigrants, Frank said.
The sheriff’s department is investigating. It did not identify the agent or the victim.
A Border Patrol spokesman, Robert Harvey, said the incident was under investigation and declined to elaborate.
