Officer Accused Of Killing His Own Police Dog
(CBS4) MIAMI A Miami-Dade Police officer has been fired after the department claims he killed his K-9 partner.
Veteran Sgt. Allen Cockfield was fired and arrested after police say he killed his Belgian Malinois, Duke. Cockfield posted $6,000 bond after being charged with animal cruelty and killing a police dog. Investigators say that the 4-year-old dog collapsed last June during a practice exercise in which 10 other officers and their dogs were participating.
They allege Cockfield kicked the police canine numerous times causing the dog to expire. Sgt. Cockfield had been relieved of duty since the onset of this investigation.
Officials say no biting or attacking was involved.
Doug Hartman, the officers attorney, called the charges a travesty.
``I'm never seen a case like this. He is one of the best dog handlers in the department,'' Hartman told the Miami Herald.
Hartman said that his client is an animal lover and that the dog was uncontrollable, causing the suspect to take corrective action.
I cant imagine other officers watching this guy kick his dog and not doing anything about it. There must be more to this story.
And people witnessed this and did nothing? I cannot imagine that. Do they not check the suitability of these police to work with dogs before they give them a dog? Unbelievable.
Administrative duty WITH pay? He would be at least in traction WITHOUT pay if there were any justice.
Probably no snapping involved. Just regular behavior. And now rewarded by having an inside desk job where he can pursue his preferred activity: stuffing down doughnuts. I hope he chokes.
DO you need any help providing that brain damage? I’m available.
I was actually hoping I had misinterpreted babygene’s imprecise wording of his statement. Let’s hope one of us is right.
True, nor should we lose sight of the fact that you are just a stupid human. I don’t care what happens to stupid things either.... /<sarcasm
Dude, it was sarcasm. Lighten up.
No it wasn’t. My post was sarcasm, babygene was serious. You need to learn the difference.
I don’t like it, and I don’t agree with it. Yet I have been to the Netherlands at least 20 times and seen it used there very often. I have seen some trainers here in the states use it as well. To me it is not acceptable. Would like to see who taught or suggested to him this was an acceptable means of training.
