He was comfortable after his conversations with Gephardt, but even queasier about Edwards after they met. Edwards had told Kerry he was going to share a story with him that he'd never told anyone elsethat after his son Wade had been killed, he climbed onto the slab at the funeral home, laid there and hugged his body, and promised that he'd do all he could to make life better for people, to live up to Wade's ideals of service. Kerry was stunned, not moved, because, as he told me later, Edwards had recounted the same exact story to him, almost in the exact same words, a year or two beforeand with the same preface, that he'd never shared the memory with anyone else. .
On the day the Edwards pick was made public, Edwards and I talked for the first time since I had informed him of our decision to work for Kerry and he had reacted angrily. He said he knew I'd helped get him on the ticket and he was grateful. I told him that I welcomed the possibility that we might be friends again, but that wasn't the reason for my preference. I believed it was the right move for Kerry. Kerry's relationship with Edwards would sour after the electionand mine would simply fade away. When Elizabeth discovered she had breast cancer, John and Teresa reached out to help the Edwardses find the best doctors they could. Marylouise and I calledbut afterward, never heard from John again. Maybe we shouldn't have expected to. Kerry told me that the Edwardses simply stopped returning calls or talking to him and Teresa. Within months, Edwards started preparing for a bid in 2008. Kerry said that he wished he'd never picked Edwards, that he should have gone with his gut.

Kerry was surprised that John Edwards, a trial lawyer who made his fortune sucking off the grief of others, played him? Kind of funny actually....when someone gets bit by his own kind.
Kerry knew that Edwards was dishonest but picked him anyway.
In all fairness, I don’t care about their hair. Apparently they do, however. They both spend a lot of money and time trying to improve their appearance. There is nothing that they can do to appear masculine.
Clinton’s minions told TIME to destroy Edwards.....he’s leading in IOWA.
So far as I can tell; not John Edwards.
That’s kind of a creepy story, too.
Yup, we never should have elected Bush when we could have had The Breck Girl and Carry! They won`t have sold us out to Mexico.
Hmm, I really hadn't heard this before, arrogant, liberal as can be, narcissistic and a lot of other things but not this.
What !!!! A trial lawyer would LIE ?!!!!!
HRC—there is a pattern here, Edwards, Obama, Gore—she hasn’t even started on the Repubs yet.
“personally, i think Kerry has better hair...”
obviously you’ve never wondered why you can’t see any scalp at the part.....or the fact that overall his hair NEVER changes. hint: he wears a rug everywhere there might be a camera.
I won’t judge anyone by things they did while overcome with grief over the the death of their child. I hope I’m never in a position to find out how I’d handle that. But recounting such an unusual and intensely personal reaction years later (if it even really happened) to impress people and score political points is sick. But not QUITE as sick as this Shrum dude repeating it to the whole world.
Agreed.
My guess is that this ultimately comes from Hillary Clinton. Despite his recent pratfalls there has been the danger that Edwards might catch on as a darling of the leftist-extremist Dhimmicrat base and "net-roots". Edwards has been the farthest left, both on Iraq and domestic/economic policy, of all the possibles (i.e. excluding the not possibles like Kookcinich).
The last thing Hillary wants is for the Dhimmicrat base to find a champion, a la Howard Dean (pre-scream). The last thing she wants is any air of enthusiasm in the Dhimmicrat primary battles. She hopes to grimly push through to the nomination on "inevitability".
Sounds to me like Kerry blames everyone but himself, just like all liberals do.
But, yes, I do believe Silky Pony played ol’ Lurch.
Not sure what I would do if one of my little ones died. I expect I would stay for a long last hug if possible. But then I should be fitted for a jacket too.
Lawyers.
