Americans -- at least really stupid Americans like George Bush --

Looks like Ann is going to get dropped from the White House invite list. ;-)

But once again, in the rest of the column, she is right on the money.

Her point is Americans' opposition to the Senate bill would be far less ferocious if it asked something of illegals - a grand bargain whereby they become Americans in name and in heart as well as in law in exchange for this amnesty they're going to be given. Nothing of the sort is being required of them - no loyalty to this country, no being responsible in the civic sense of the word and no playing by the same rules as Americans. No - they're being exempt from all that and as Rudyard Kipling famously put it, being elevated to the status of the "lesser breed without the law." No wonder Americans are so righteously angry. Such an arrangement flies against the very nature of what America is all about.

Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." -Manuel II Paleologus

Listen, I can understand her feelings, I do share them. I love the president but I am awfully disappointed in him (and the wimps which the GOP has become) and his actions of late. I legally immigrated to the States with my family over 20 years ago when I was a kid. We didn't sneak in, we didn't overstay a visitor/student or other type of visa. We obeyed the law. And to add insult to the injury, my older brother, being over 18 and married, had to wait over 5 years until my dad got his citizenship in order to be reunited with us. Geographical proximity should not give certain nationalities the right to a free ride for amnesty. It is simply not fair and seeing the president wanting it to make it happen just gets me mad. Very mad! And don't get me started on the Republican senators. If this continues to progress this way I will simply not vote on the next elections, I would rather roll a dice. They keep giving in, cowering and avoiding taking a stand on conservative issues.
