I voted a straight Repub ticket in 2006
***And I’m going to vote straight repub in 2008. If rudy is the GOP nominee, I’ll be writing in Duncan Hunter, the man who deserves it. Straight republican.

The people of the United States know only one thing. The leader of the illegal immigration lobby is the chief officer of the republican party. And it is that party that has and will suffer when this garbage he supports is put forward for passage. The brave republican congressmen who oppose this garbage have suffered and will continue to suffer from his unbelievable support of this legislation that will lead to the end of this republic. Most Americans have no idea how their congressman votes on this issue. They certainly know, however, the position of the outspoken leader of the party.

Republicans can stop this piece of trash. There are 49 republicans in the Senate it only takes 41 to stop this idiocy but as you well know, too many will not stand up to the illegal alien lobby and their republican leader who has lost his mind.

Yeah, I guess conservatives really taught that liberal Allen and that other liberal Santorum a good lesson! /s

Your entire basic premise is false. That you felt the need to identify yourself as some sort of braniac makes those jumps in logic even more ridiculous.

And the lesson was, since you asked, that Republicans who ignore their constituents shouldn’t be surprised when they’re ignored back. Isn’t that their own doing? If the “lesson” was not sufficiently learned in 2006, and amnesty passes, you had better believe the lesson will be learned in 2008.

Compute that.

"Compute that."

I did compute that. Enjoy your amnesty. Did the means justify the end? In this case, no. Enjoy amnesty, you earned it while kicking good hard working Conservatives such as my Congressman, John Culberson, to the minority curb.

You’re telling a FReeper who has been here for nine years that he adds nothing? You probably won’t last nine years, judging from your recent posts.

"But since the Republicans are being "taught a lesson" by ultra-conservatives..."

Actually, our loss of both houses wasn't because "ultra-conservatives" "taught a lesson."
The Independents went the other way this time.
So, your logic is flawed.

And, it's the Independents who are deserving of your scorn...

...not us.

Why don't you post this on an Independent forum, if you can find one, and see what they have to say?

Who exactly is being taught a lesson?

I doubt it was Republicans sitting home. I believe that most card carrying Republicans DID vote "R" and the ones that didn't show up wouldn't have made a difference if they did. It was likely the blue-collar, Reagan democrats voting against the GOP that did the GOP in!

Especially in the House seats we lost in the midwest and northeast, it was the blue-collar democrats (Reagan democrats) who didn't pull "R" in the races we lost.

Most of the districts the GOP lost in the Midwest/Northeast, we were outnumbered by Democrats to begin with. Many of those democrats, however, are the more conservative blue-collar or Reagan democrat kind (pro-2nd amendment, anti-abortion, etc.), who normally voted "R" at the federal congressional level (at least since 1994).

They are however, also proud union members who don't take kindly to someone screwing or potentially screwing with their livlihoods and unlike their union leadership, they despise amnesty and will not support any politician or party that does.

The Amnesty really pissed them off. Many felt betrayed by the GOP in general and took it out on their GOP congressman, regardless if their congressman stood with them on the issue or not.

The Republican Pollster, Frank Luntz, warned Bush and the GOP leadership last year that every time Bush stated "they [illegals] are just doing the jobs that Americans won't do", that they lost thousands of blue-collar, Reagan Democrats in the midwest and northeast who normally voted "R" at the federal level. And look where a big chunk of the GOP House losses came from!

When they saw the leader of the Republican party (Bush), going on TV last year and saying we MUST have comprehensive immigration reform (AMNESTY) and like it, they probably saw as much red as conservatives did, if not more. Unfortunately, they took it out, in many cases, on GOP House members who agreed with them on amnesty, just because they had an "R" after their names.

Notice that almost all those new democrat congressmen are as opposed to amnesty as the Republican they beat (or say they are) and will vote against it in the House. They know what issue put them into office and what issue will put them out if they vote the wrong way!

Of course, local dynamics played a role in many cases as well. Several losses also came from seats held by corrupt GOP House members.

Good point-I may do the same. However, we have to be realistic and admit this will probably allow the Democrat to win if enough Repubs do this. Personally, the Repubs deserve to lose. Of course, both parties stink in my opinion.

Pres. Bush has always been pro-amnesty-honest about it. The senate passed a bill last year-it died in the house. However, the damage had been done. The GOP paid a price for their pushing of this bill. It is not so much about punishing the GOP as conservatives are princpled voters. We need somethig positive to vote for. We will not keep choosing the lesser of two evils indefinitely. I voted a straight GOP ticket in 2006 as did most conservatives I know. However, after watching the behaviour of the GOP of late, I see no reason to keep electing them.

So by teaching the Republicans a lesson what did you expect other than for amnesty to pass? It's sort of a captain obvious moment, don't cha'think! Reduce the Republicans to a minority in both Houses and expect for amnesty to not pass!?

Obviously you've missed the "elephant" in the room, or you wouldn't try and draw such a shallow and obvious conclusion: it's the Republicrats that are front and center trying to sell this amnesty. If theere were more, the problem wouldn't be any less serious.

The only lesson this teaches anyone is the value of never, ever voting for someone who isn't a conservative American first - and a party hack second.
