Though I watched this thing on PBS [no it’s not a habit I was channel surfing and that’s how I found it] about the Chicago meatpacking industry and how Armour, Swift, etc. initially hired experienced German butchers to work in the slaughterhouses, but soon the German butchers wanted too much money so the meatpacking companies brought in Polish and Slavic people that would do the same work for a portion of what the German workers wanted.

History repeating itself?
