In 2002, the republican nominee for governor was then-IL Attorney General Jim Ryan, who isn’t related to George. In 2004, Jack Ryan, an investment advisor who isn’t related to George, won the republican U.S. Senate primary and dropped out of the race because of a sex scandal. Too many voters couldn’t remember which Ryan was the governor who was investigated, by the FBI, for accepting bribes. If Fred Thompson runs for president, the name confusion will cause a problem, throughout the U.S.
