Things could get even more interesting if, as is reported, Fred Thompson joins the race. This would be the first time in a long time that I've liked more than one candidate in the primaries. Of course, my loyalty is to Mitt however, Fred would be a great alternative. Mitt's been building some momentum over the past couple of weeks so, we'll see what kind of an affect Fred Thompson entering the race will have on that. This could be very interesting!

He will be if Fred Thompson decides not to run, however the breaking news in the last few hours is that Fred Thompson is running for sure and he will announce his candidacy on July 4th.

Thompson-Mitt is still a great ticket :)

PS: Another great picture of the Governor :)

>> The other potential challenge is his Mormon faith.

The Constitution prohibits a religious test for office...but the MSM are going to do their very best to insert the test themselves into the campaign, and keep it alive by constantly hammering it. I think it will backfire, though.

Let’s get ready to RUUUUMMMMMMBBBBBBBLEEEE!

While I personally like Mitt, I think a good fight will improve our chances for ‘08. I eagerily await Fred’s entrance into the race. I also hear that Tom Coburn wants to get in the race too. He would be a great choice too.

I could support Romney. Also Giuliani. Not McCain.

Obviously Thompson would be better, but I think he’s waited too long. He may be looking to garner the VP spot.

Romney/Thompson would be a good choice. Or vice versa.

I am worried about their chances of beating Hillary, though. I think Giuliani has the best chance of beating Hillary.

The Constitution prohibits a religious test for office...

It does not prohibit it from being a campaign issue brought up by other candidates or voters.

Rudy might be able to take New York.

Other than that the red/blue makeup of the Electoral Vote will be likely quite close to what it has been everywhere else in recent years if he is up against The Beast.

Might as well face it, we are going to get that Shrew in 2008.

I don’t agree about Rudy being able to beat hillary. He’s not that good a debater. He had problems running against her for Senator. I think she would use her smear skills to wipe the floor with him. It’s going to take a skilled communicator who can think “on the spot” and be so well informed they can come back at her point by point. Rudy is too emotional.

So, what are Romney’s positions this week again?

What time is it, they may have changed again.

What will his positions be after he’s elected?

I think that Rudy could win here in Florida against Hillary. He’s probably the only one, though. There are a lot of NY retirees down here. If the GOP can’t win Florida, then they can’t win. Hillary will most likely take all of the states that Kerry took, plus Ohio.

“The Constitution prohibits a religious test for office...”

No it doesn’t, it denies the establishment of a state religion. There is nothing in the Constitution precluding voters from taking into account the religious beliefs of a candidate.

“but the MSM are going to do their very best to insert the test themselves into the campaign, and keep it alive by constantly hammering it.”

Not only the MSM, but also sincere people who believe Mormonism has tenets that cause high office holders to become unstable choices.

“I think it will backfire, though.”

If 10% of Christian voters walk away, kiss the election goodbye. But feel free to vote for Romney, just don’t be surprised when the next ten years are sucked up debating seer stones, polygamy, celestial wives, secret handshakes, Temple rites, sealings, Indians as Jews (Lamanites and Nephites), and whether Bishop Mitt is a Holder of the Melchizedek priesthood. You think Skull and Crossbones was bad, you ain’t seen nothing yet.

No, it does not. The Constitution does not presume to govern the darker recesses of the human soul.

It is up to us to reject such bigotry ourselves.

I don’t think Rudy ran against Hillary for Senate. You’re thinking of someone else, probably Rick Lazio.

All the more reason why he can't win Florida - people forget how unpopular Rudy was in New York before 9/11.

Yes he did, until he backed out a few months before the election, due to his “prostate cancer”

A lot of Freepers say that, but he’s the only candidate who’s got the edge on Hillary in the Florida polls. If he’s so unpopular among NYers, then why do they support him?

No we won’t. Most dems I know, and who also voted for Kerry, can’t stand her. Rudy or Romney likely would beat her, and I think, fairly easily.

Thompson, on the other hand, will demolish her like Nixon v McGovern, and Reagan v Carter/Mondale.
