Yes he has.
I guess when they said they would not be for amnesty, they were playing with us.

Not at all!
There is, what I think is a bug in FR that will drop people out of the ping.
I usually shift the names around so that, at least, it doesn’t affect the same person all the time, but haven’t lately.
You’re just in the “ping hole”.

Hi, Fuddy. Sessions was one of the few senators to stand up and address the bill. The proponents stood up and spoke talking points or bumper sticker talk.
I heard Teddy say the 400,000+ guest worker number probably was too high, but since that is roughly the number of illegals entering annually, it would take “pressure” off of the US in case the border security measures did not hold up!!! Now there is a real confidence builder.
BTW, have you seen the replays of Teddy’s comments from the 1986 bill? Much the same as today. But, today, we have the benefit of hindsight on Teddy the K.
Call your Senators and call them often!

Aww, yes. Fence construction. Just how many miles of fence has been built. If it wasn’t the future of our country at stake, this would be laughable.

Hi dinasour,
In Tony’s current job, he has the option of questioning the President on a policy, statement or planned action, but he doesn’t have the prerogative of doing so publicly.
It is fair that even if Tony believes otherwise that the President believes in this legislation and that Tony has the responsibility of communicating the position of the President. We disagree with the President. We believe that this legislation means to punish those who obey laws and to sanctify and formalize the process of breaking the law (with financial benefits going to those who choose to break the law).
Cheers,
sl

I also find it upsetting that the President goes out of his way to point out that those who crossed into our country illegally [and, at least here in North Carolina, continue to break our rules about drinking and driving] will be treated with respect while ignoring the sentiment of Americans, and in some cases actually accusing us of not having the best interests of the country at heart. I am not a xenophobe and I do favor expanded immigration. But, this bill is NOT the way to accomplish that.

I find it odd that when Teddy Kennedy got it sooo wrong in the ‘80s that anyone could possibly value his views today.
If Ted Kennedy stands in the well of the Senate and apologizes for his drunk driving accident that killed Mary Jo Kopechne, maybe, I’ll consider his opinions. But probably not.

OK, you are right. Autocrat is too strong a word. I withdraw it. I simply am so steamed over this misguided effort, I can’t see straight.
I did enjoy hearing Sen. Sessions talk about the self-appointed or self anointed elite who thought they could construct a great bill behind closed doors. Sessions pointed out that several of the flaws in this bill could have been fixed on the floor if it had been made available for discussion. BTW, while many senators were not allowed direct access to these meetings, La Raza and the Chamber of Commerce were. So much for eliminating even the appearance of corruption.
It was interesting to see our good Mexican friends to the south boo Miss America during the competition. Sure makes me want to bend over backwards to facilitate their entry into America!

I would take it the other way. If they would like to boo America, that is fine, no healthcare or welfarefunded by the YS, no mailing or sending money out of the US if you don’t file taxes and/or if you claim 7 or 8 exemptions on your W4(so much for illegals “paying” taxes)

Well, while most of us seem agreed Tony is wrong, we wont really know until he writes his memoirs what he thinks personally. His job is to persuade us to GWB’s point of view. So far, it hasn’t worked here on the hard core FReepers. But, his batting average is still pretty good. Too bad Tony is not working for a more conservative president. GWB got the less taxes part, but somewhere he missed the part about smaller gov’t.

Yes, that corresponds to my dictionary, too. Some have “amnesty” defined as a “pardon” and that, I believe is where they get there narrow definition of amnesty.
It is very hard to come to an agreement when the folks involved cannot even agree to the terms.
