Giuliani's law firm gave significantly to Democrats

Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani, a prodigious fundraiser who will campaign today in California, is partner in a law firm with a generous political action committee -- one which gave nearly 40 percent of its contributions to Democrats in the 2006 midterm elections, including $5,000 to then-Democratic House leader Nancy Pelosi of San Francisco.

The 2006 donations from the political action committee of the Houston-based law firm of Bracewell & Giuliani -- known as "Bracepac'' -- included $3,000 to California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein and $500 to Jerry McNerney, who defeated Republican Rep. Richard Pombo in the East Bay's hotly contested 11th Congressional District race, federal records show.

"If the donations were in Rudy Giuliani's name, or his wife's name, that would be a problem,'' said Bill Whalen, a Hoover institution research fellow and former speechwriter to Republican Gov. Pete Wilson. "But it's the reality of modern day politics ... and under the larger category of doing business. He's a partner in a law firm that wants to do business on both sides of the street -- so you give to Republicans and Democrats."

Bracewell & Giuliani has also been a high-profile lobbying firm, receiving nearly $6 million in lobbying fees last year with a client list that included the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association -- which fought regulations to reduce greenhouse gasses -- and the Electric Reliability Coordinating Council, an industry group formed in part to fight pollution controls for coal-fired plants.

Rudy ... a man of principal over principle.

Rudy's just doing what any other shark would do if they were in his position - hedging his bets by bribing both sides of the aisle. Why, I'll bet other lawyers Hairball, Hussein and Queen Hillary are doing the same thing by dumping loads of cash on the Pubbies.

I wonder when the world is going to get used to the fact that Rudy is a liberal, plain and simple. Nowadays, it does not matter what your party affiliation is... very sad for America, but true. Too many RINOs spoil the soup.

I dont buy the line “its just toadys political reality, that doing business in today’s world you have to be on good terms with both sides of K-Street”..THATS BULL(Pardon my language) $H*7. You need to stand for Principles to be President of this great nation, If he or his firm supported LIBERALS that DEFEATED Good Conservatives, he should have known better. It is better to stand for something and BELIEVE we can WIN, than to stand for nothing (or in the middle) and compromise..

Hear, Hear..real conservatives:!

Just one more reason why Rudi should be running for the Democrat nomination. Heck, he's passed on two elections against the witch-- he needs to show he can handle her in a primary.

May I take a wild guess that you have never been on K Street? Or anywhere near it?

What is described is SOP. Whether people here like it or not.

Hardly a surprise. A liberal is far more likely to find fellow liberals to donate to amongst the ‘Rats.

No kidding. I've never seen FR so kneejerk before. Even the article says that the PAC was "one which gave nearly 40 percent of its contributions to Democrats." For a law firm PAC - particularly one that lobbies - I'd say any firm that gave less than 40 percent to the Dems was probably a Republican firm.
