Is it just me or does no one realize that once these illegals become "legal", the cost benefit of their employment disappears? "Legal" mexicans will be subject to the minimum wage laws of the country, forcing employers to raise their pay, and therefore their products prices. In the end, its the same result that would occur if farmers and others paid the real cost of labor for their products, The only difference is that it would be real legal citizens doing the jobs and we would be spared the flood of new, low-skill immigrants.

Nope, you're not the only one.

Were the current crop of illegals to become legal, it would only create a demand for a whole new crop of illegals to work at the old half-price rate.

And so the cycle continues.

The whole idea is dumb. If I were an illegal here in the states then I would continue being one. It would be much cheaper and theres no real punishment if caught.

The bottom line is that the day this shamnesty bill is passed, 12-20 million illegal aliens will be "legalized" for life, with access to most of the bennies of being a full citizen.

And only a fool believes that they will not be able to bring in their families, no matter what this bill claims notwithstanding. This means the invasion will swell from 20 to 100 million in short order.

Adios America, bienvenidos Amexica.

Chertoff has said in interviews that the 24 hour period is more than enough to do a “background check.” What HE MEANS BY THAT is running of fingerprints against a database.

He says “we run 60 million visitors per year, this is the same procedure we do with visitors traveling to this country.”

So the problem is the difference is what we EXPECT of a background check and what they really plan to do — which is minimal at best.

Just remember that Chertoff is depending on the same bureauacracy that sent automatic visa extensions to the 9-11 hijackers six months after 9-11 to do these 20 million 24 hour background checks.

If we are lucky they will do that much.
