Dyslexia is a social fig leaf used by middle-class parents who fear their children will be labelled as low achievers, a professor has claimed.
Julian Elliott, a leading educational psychologist at Durham University, says he has found no evidence to identify dyslexia as a medical condition after more than 30 years of research.

they probably decry it because it works.
Let’s face it - a lot of agencies and entities depend on stupid people. I don’t mean that as a criticism of those people, it really isn’t their fault.
Of all the things I learned in school, it was logical fallacies and logic, that has helped me the most. There is *nothing* so satisfying as making a buearacrat squirm when they try pulling their usual.
Hmmm
I said that because it is sometimes misused does not mean it is always misused and you responded
>>NO, being unfocused is nothing new.
Its just another drain on taxpayers. Patience and prompting cure that ... .<<
That’s not really a contradiction.
public schools in the states do this with ADHD and ADD and Dyslexia.
The parents get freebees, the school get money. The child grows into an adult who had a permanent excuse for failures.
This article is about England, smart eyes. In the US they put you on a 504 and otherwise do practically nothing (ie, they give you an extra day to get your hw in) for the true dyslexic, which is probably between 3 and 5 % of all kids. If its a scam to get taxpayer money to the schools for doing nothing, than I would say theyre doing very well, here.
..Personally, I spent tens of thousands to get my kid help, and first thing I did was pull him out of the public schools. Feh.
Calling Dyslexia a sign of stupidity, is like calling any verbal or visual disorder a sign of stupidity. Stuttering for example is another example where assuming stupidity of the individual because of a disorder is foolishness.
As someone with Dyslexia, and a retired military officer with a BSEE, MSEE and MBA, thank you for your voice of reason. Those who make blanket assertions regarding topics about which they know nothing might want to get their own IQs tested. (mine is 156. Last time I checked that was somewhat above stupid)
Well someone has to step up and be the voice of reason every once in a while. I just don’t get idiotic claims like this guy and others like him.
Thank you for your service.
No contradiction.
Thank you!
IT’S REASSURING TO SEE ANOTHER SANE PERSON ON FR!
Agree 100% with your post. Consider that Abraham Lincoln didn’t even know he had a left and right brain. We are just getting started.
