India cancels diplomatic visit to China (Financial Times)
By Jo Johnson in New Delhi Published: May 27 2007 13:25 | Last updated: May 27 2007 13:25

India has cancelled a confidence-building visit to China by over one hundred civil servants in an escalation of a diplomatic row over the two countries’ 3,500km-long unresolved border.
The 107 Indian Administrative Service officers were due to leave for Beijing and Shanghai for a mid-career training programme on Saturday when they were directed to return to their home states.
The Indian move came after China granted only 106 visas to the visiting delegation, denying one to a civil servant from the eastern Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, on the grounds that he was Chinese and therefore did not need one.
Beijing claims 90,000 sq km of land in Arunachal Pradesh, which borders Bhutan and Tibet. India in turn says that China is occupying 38,000 sq km of its territory in Kashmir illegally ceded to it by Pakistan.
Analysts said China’s denial of a visa to a government official from Arunachal Pradesh was intended to reinforce its claim to the entire state and not just the disputed tract of land around Tawang it has long asserted to be part of Tibet.
It is not the first occasion on which China has sought to remind India of its continuing claim to this sparsely-populated area of the eastern Himalayas over which the two countries fought a brief and bloody war in 1962.
China’s envoy to India Sun Yuxi said the “entire state was a part of China” last November, just a few days before Chinese president Hu Jintao’s maiden visit to India.
The Indian ministry of external affairs has repeatedly stated that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India.
Beijing has denied visas to officials from the disputed state on several occasions in recent years. Analysts said India’s reaction, in canceling a programme that had the personal support of Manmohan Singh, prime minister, was unprecedentedly firm.
During a trip to India by Chinese premier Wen Jiabao in 2005, India and China agreed on broad principles to settle their decades-long border issue. Although negotiators will meet again in July, few expect any breakthrough ahead of Mr Singh’s visit to Beijing later this year.
The border dispute has not prevented a blossoming of trade and economic ties. The countries are aiming for two-way trade worth $40bn by 2010. Bilateral trade has surged to $17.6bn in 2005/6, from $260m in 1990. Copyright The Financial Times Limited 2007

No, but it's one more piece of evidence. I hve presented a mountain of evidence that India is repressive, that it commits atrocities against its minorities, that it has a long record of anti-Americanism, and that it has little freedom or democracy and would be a terrible ally. It has done nothing for us in the WOT. But hey, we're all supposed to support it because a bunch of well-paid Indian propagandists in this country tell us that it's a good country.

I have yet to see that 'mountain' of evidence. What I HAVE seen on this thread is you trying to inflect that India is bad because some American who happens to be a member of the Nation of Islam said some good things (which are by the way quite true) about Indians. Now, if you have a mountain of evidence showing India is bad so be it ....but trying to justify your personal thoughts on India with a commentary from an NOI member (who happens to be American) is just not good enough to count as 'evidence.'

As I had said, if that is the type of evidence required to affect internation geo-political leanings, then it would be all too easy to simply find some evil people (all the way to Osama) saying good things about people we may not necessarily agree with (for instance when he insinuated that America should vote for Kerry in the last election); and we can also find all sorts of good people saying bad things about nations/people/things that we identify/affiliate with (e.g. look at some of President Bush's comments on immigration). Thus trying to influence peoples' opinions on India by using the comments of an American NOI member just seems weak. Terribly so.

Another thing you should notice is that some of our historical allies (examples inclde Pakistan and Iran ....yes, that Iran) have interesting national personas. Just because a nation is/was an ally at one point in the past doesn't mean that it will always be so. International politics are not that immutable! One moment Iran was a strong part of our sphere of influence (to the extent that we offered them F-14 TomCats at a time when the 'Cat was literally the cat's miaow, and we offered them ONLY to Iran ...although Israel had an option before they opted for the F-15), then the next moment they are kidnapping our citizens and burning effigies.

Now look at Pakistan ....the nation was an ally during the Cold War ( a time, btw, that had India in the Soviet camp ...for reasons that I shall not go into now). Pakistan is still an ally of ours to this day. But it is an ally that is the number 1 source/fount of jihadi extremism (read: anti-American jihadi extremism) in the world, the number 1 loci that has the most number of Madrassas (which basically indoctrinate youth with not just Islamic zeal of the radical type but also imbues them with a need for jihad), is a nation that funds terrorist activities (especially in India), one of only two nations that recognized and supported the Taliban, a nation that had its leading scientist (A. Khan) leak nuclear know-how to nations like North Korea, and a nation that has various internal security issues (in essence a powder keg) that are only stabilized by the actions of the Military elite (Pakistan is basically kept functioning by a cabal of top military people, of which Musharaff is one. There are others scattered throughout the military and the ISI - Pakistan's 'CIA'). Oh ...and guess which country is going more and more into China's sphere of influence? One hint: It is not India! Pakistan and China have been building ever more robust ties (one could say going back several decades, but picking up ever more steam year on year). And I am not just talking economic ties ....military and strategic ties are at the fore-front. Pakistan's nuclear program has a strong Chinese signature, Pakistan is buying all sorts of military equipment from Beijing (to much fanfare in Pakistan), and for all this China gets a very strategic deep-water port at Gwadar (sp).

Now, if you are basing your anti-Indian sentiment on the comments of some American NOI member, then imagine what I could come up with on Pakistan! And trust me ....I would not have to go fishing for the comments of some wannabe in the Nation of Islam.

Indian American charged with selling stealth secrets to China
Posted November 24th, 2006 by aftababedinInternational Washington, Nov 24 (IANS) China obtained secret stealth technology used on B-2 bomber engines from a Hawaii-based Indian American spy in a compromise US officials say will allow Beijing to copy or counter a key weapon in the Pentagon’s new strategy against China, according to a local daily.

Details of the classified defence technology related to the B-2’s engine exhaust system and its ability to avoid detection by infrared sensors were sold to Chinese officials by former defence contractor Noshir S. Gowadia, an India-born citizen charged with spying in a federal indictment released by prosecutors in Hawaii, the Washington Times reported Thursday.

Additionally, Gowadia provided extensive technical assistance to Chinese weapons designers in developing a cruise missile with an engine exhaust system that is hard to detect by radar, according to court papers made public recently.

He also helped the Chinese modify a cruise missile so it can intercept US air-to-air missiles and helped Chinese weapons designers improve testing and measurement facilities, the court papers state.

Most of the indictment, handed up Nov 8, outlines how the engineer helped China develop a radar-evading stealth exhaust nozzle for a cruise missile engine.

Additionally, the court papers indicated that Gowadia sent e-mails to Israel, Germany and Switzerland in 2002 and 2004 that contained data labelled “secret” and “top secret”. These were related to US stealth technology intended for use in the TH-98 Eurocopter and for foreign commercial aircraft.

One computer file found in Gowadia’s Maui, Hawaii, home was a file containing the radar cross-sections of US B-1 and F-15 jets and the Air Force’s air-launched cruise missile, information that would be useful to countering those systems by anti-aircraft missiles or other air defence weapons.

The case is the second major military technology espionage case involving China. Earlier this year, two China-born brothers in Los Angeles were arrested as suspects in passing Navy warship and submarine weapons secrets to China, the Times said.

In all, Gowadia is charged with making at least six secret visits to China from 2002 through 2005, and being paid at least $110,000 by Chinese officials for highly classified defence technology supplied through January, according to court papers.

Investigators think he was paid as much as $2 million, some of which remains in foreign bank accounts.

Gowadia worked for B-2 developer and manufacturer Northrop Aircraft Inc. from 1968 to 1989 as part of an ultrasecret special access programme for the B-2, and later as a Northrop contractor involved in classified research on missiles and aircraft. He also worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory in the 1990s.

He developed the still-secret method used by military aircraft to suppress infrared signals from the engine that blocks heat-seeking missiles from targeting the jet.

US officials familiar with the case said the compromise of the B-2 technology is extremely damaging because it will give China key secrets on the bomber, the daily said.

A defence official cited by Times said the case highlights China’s intelligence efforts to counter key weapons systems that give the US strategic advantages over Chinese forces. “The B-2 is at the head of the list of their intelligence targets,” said the official.

The Pentagon recently completed a major upgrade of bomber storage facilities on the Pacific island of Guam as part of a new strategy designed to position forces in Asia for a swift defeat of China in a future conflict.

B-2 bombers are regularly deployed for short periods of time on Guam as part of what the Pentagon is calling its “hedge” strategy to be ready to deal with a Chinese threat in the future.

Gowadia has pleaded not guilty to the charges and his son, Ashton Gowadia, told the Honolulu Star-Bulletin that the charges against his father are false. A trial is scheduled for July.

It is not about paying attention. Your posts on this thread have been marked by a rather convoluted attempt to make all sorts of connections that portray India as 'bad,' and the evidence used is not only weak but nigh laughable (using the whole NOI angle). And as I said ....were I to use the same metrics you are using against some of our legacy allies (a good example being Pakistan, but I could easily do the same fr even a REAL ally like Britain) it would be easy to quote so many 'interesting' (read: nefarious) characters saying things that are quite skewed.

And in the case of some nations (again, Pakistan) there would be no need to do so .....there is a REAL 'mountain of evidence' that shows that nation is simply not pro-American. Yet you ignore such nations and point a finger at India .....and (at least on this thread) use a newspaper that also talks about Alien colonies on Earth, as well as some comments by an American Nation of Islam member, to justify your claims.

I'm sorry sir, but even if you did join in 1998 your level of logic is quite atrophied. At least on this particular thread (never seen ANY of your posts on another thread, and hopefully they do not try to link far-connected issues in a feeble attempt to brew up some concocted impression). And joining in 1998 doesn't necessarily mean much ....it does accord one a certain level of respect (that is for sure), but it doesn't necessarily mean that one's posts are gilded in gold. In your case that is pretty much evident.

Anyways, I will pay attention when you:

1) Show 'evidence' that doesn't use some off-beat comments by an AMERICAN Nation of Islam member to show India is 'baaaad'

2) Use as a source a newspaper that is not the equivalent of the National Enquirer (let's just say it would be better if the newspaper was not talking of Alien seeding of Earth and vimanas-UFOs flitting about in the sky)

3) Answer why the US Government (with George Bush at the front) is striving so hard to draw India ever closer to the US.

4) USe the same metrics you employ against India (eg comments by some people who are literally nobody) against some of our allies. A good starting point would be Pakistan. Tell me what the use of such metrics would portray of such 'allies.' Better yet don't waste time looking for NOI members and just look at the facts .....start with nuclear proliferation and terrorist support in the case of our 'pals' the Pakistanis.

To be honest, your 'evidence' wouldn't be sufficient for a 4th grade debate session (hence my earlier comments concerning 4th grade logic).

Ahem..I guess you forgot to talk about the Mak brothers...no that wouldn’t fit with Chinese propaganda...would make your scum-brethren look very bad. There’s a difference between truth and propaganda and when a propagandist posts one post thats true doesn’t change the fact that he’s a propagandist. Where as there’s no smoke without fire..Gowadia’s trial is yet to begin. If he’s guilty, I would support hanging him Indian or not. Now...please indicate posts where I have spread “propaganda”. In my country we have a free press and we’re free to criticize our government and set-up without worrying about having our gonads transplanted. Now let’s talk about yours.

So bottomline: You’re still a chicom cyber-whore.

I am not sure if Nation of Islam is same as the real mainstream Islam. I dont know much about Nation of Islam, but I what I know for certain is the TBP has no problem supporting the “Nation of Pakistan” that not only follows real Islam but is also a terrorist state.

TBP however need every flimsy reason to spew at Indian over whatever he could get his hand on. The fact that this senator (who has little support on this forum) has something good to say about India, TBP has found a convenient way to use this against India. Only thing is this moron forgets this American senator has been elected by Americans not Indians. If he needs to blame anyone, he should blame Americans for that.
