In World Religions class today our teacher was attempting to explain Shariah law, and she said: “There is more than one school of law in Islam.”
“Of course,” I said quietly, “you got your stoning school, and your beheading school... everyone around me laughed, it seems some people at my school have some sense.
There are quietists among Muslims, like Sistani, the “moderate” Shia Arab scholar and the Sufi cholars who until recent years were dominant in the United States. But The Arabs of Saudi Arabia despise them, as do the Shia Mullahs of Iran. In today’s climate, these schools really don’t matter.
