Good detective work! I too have serious reactions to food additives. Flavor enhancers affect my heart and the reactions are getting stronger.

I don’t know how old you are but getting older has certainly affected my taste buds (along with various other parts of my body). I don’t like shrimp or shrimp gumbo anymore, can you believe that?

I have been pleased to read, of late, that the alleged horrors of drinking large amounts of black coffee... appear to have been largely exaggerated... grin.

My great aunt is 104, when she turned 90 she gave up eating chocolate but resumed eating it when she turned 100. She said the dr was always talking aboiut a healthy diet so she figured chocolate was out. She said when she reached 100 she had better enjoy herself while she was still here. lol

My grandfather lived to be 100 and my great great aunt 108.
Good genes, hope I have them.

I have a chronic illness and avoid certain foods that can aggravate it. I don’t disparage this at all.

I allow myself 1 soda per week when I am not having any problems with my illness.

My Diet Coke contains potassium benzoate.

Which is good, since I drink about a sixer a day.

Di (two) hydrogen = H2
Mono (one) oxide = O

H2O. Water. (I’m too lazy to do the subscript for the 2.)

“What is di-hydrogen monoxide and how did it cause most of the tsunami deaths.”

This is a link to information about the substance.

You might also want to be aware that the chemical notation for di (di means 2)Hydrogen monoxide (mono means one) is
H2O

I do not know if this makes a difference but Diet Coke does contain Potassium Benzoate not Sodium Benzoate and Citric Acid.

You should drink something like Diet Mountain Dew, because the FDA tested two lots of DM to determine that Diet Mountain Dew has less than part per billion of Benzine.

The maximum amount to be on the safe side is around 5. Tap water probably has about between 1 and 3.1 ppb.

http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/benzqa.html

Most sodas contain Calcium Disodium EDTA which inhibits the formation of benzine.

I am drink vitamin water which contain Sodium Bezoate , but also Calcium Disodium EDTA.You can get vitamin water at Wholefoods free of Sodium Bezoate.

Also, as a woman, you should stay away from phosphoric acid.
