MEMORIAL DAY: On And Off The Field....A Time To Remember

Memorial Day.

A holiday where we take time to remember and honor those who gave their lives to defend and protect this nation. Without their service and sacrifice, we would not enjoy the standard of living we do today in these United States, nor, would we be able to pursue our vocations and interests.

Including this website.

A number of college football players over the years have served in our Armed Forces, many after their playing days...some even before. Famous names like Dwight Eisenhower, George Patton, Rocky Bleier, Pat Tillman, and others risked their careers and, tragically in the case of Tillman, their lives to defend our nation in times of war.

Even though football requires much physical and mental sacrifice, it pales in comparison to the sacrifice needed to serve your country.

On June 2, 1943, a young pilot on a training mission was trying to make an emergency landing in the Carribean, near the coast of Venezuela. His plane developed engine trouble, and, trying to avoid damage to his base and harm to his fellow servicemen....he landed his plane in the sea. The young pilot was never found.
