Does this mean current Direct tv HD boxes will have to be changed? I haven’t been to happy with Direct’s 7 channel lineup.

If you have a newer HD box that receives the MPEG4 signal that DirectTV will use to provide the new HD channels you will be fine.

If you have a DirectTv TIVO box like the Hughes HR10-250 that came out in 2004 you will need to replace it to get the expanded lineup.
