Those lies are being used SPECIFICALLY TO GET the vote and support of the priest (and millions of others!) that you mentioned.

I wouldn’t call parish priests “social justice zealots”. What they are is massively misinformed. Most are overworked and are influenced by the mainstream media and have access to magazines that push that agenda. Their level of comprehension of these issues and economics in particular is very poor. I find that they will listen to rational arguments and I also find that almost no parishioners take up this task.

So yes I agree with you what has happened is that they’ve accepted a pack of lies.
