The headline makes it sound like a) they were doing it in the air and b) she was being punished for all three of them.

Not to mention the phrase “Female airman” seems odd. Why not “airwoman” or “airperson”?

“Airman” is a title, not a description. Just like “Lieutenant” or “Yeoman”.

The term "airman", like "seaman", derives from the Latin manus: "hand", ie someone doing the manual work.
