NASHVILLE -- A Nashville taxicab driver told police that an "intoxicated" state Sen. Ophelia Ford pulled his shirt collar while he was driving her and another woman to Ford's hotel Tuesday night from a downtown bar and restaurant.
According to a Metropolitan Police incident report obtained today, driver Habib Abdi Hashi told police here that he had transported Ford about 4 p.m. Tuesday and got a call to pick up her party at the Wildhorse Saloon about 9:13 p.m. Hashi told officers that the "suspect was intoxicated and was brought out to the cab under a blanket to keep the media from seeing her," the report says.
"The victim stated that he picked up the suspect and an unknown female and drove his cab...(and) stated that the suspect grabbed the collar of his shirt from behind and pulled it back, tearing a button off of the shirt. Victim stated that the female who was with the suspect grabbed the suspect's hands and pried them loose."
Hashi then took the women to the Holiday Inn Select near Vanderbilt University. "Victim stated that he had to help the suspect to her room," then took the unidentified woman to the Orchid Lounge, back downtown, according to the report.
Police said Hashi told them he did not want to press charges "at this time, but reserves the right to in the future."
Hashi also told police that Ford left her shoes in his cab, a pair of brown Timberland shoes.
Ford, 56, acknowledged that she went to the Wildhorse Saloon with a friend named "Marsha" and rode the cab back to the hotel but "she said there was no incident with the cab driver," Mark Brown, Senate Democratic Caucus press secretary said.
"She said, 'I'm not a violent person. I was a battered wife once so I know what violence does to people and I didn't do that'," Brown quoted Ford as saying.
Let me be the first to say that Habib Hashie seems a nice sort.
At least I hope we do.
For some reason, I thought of you. Hence, this ping...

As yet unannounced homosexual congresswoman? (I thought the democrats embraced such things openly)

Ophelia was elected and will be there until 2010 and there is nothing anyone can do about it.
She said it ,so it must be true.
The “people” really picked a winner this time.
Sigh. Tennessee...first the brod with the trooper, now this.
Re: No. 9
It was the former, not flaming you. I watched the video and it was quite amazing. It really shows how secure our “public servants” are in their positions of responsibility and power. Sadly, so. Thanks for the link and you and yours have a great Memorial Day weekend...
