It's amazing how dumb criminals can act

It never ceases to amaze me about how dumb criminals can be.

Just a few weeks ago, a guy walked into the Bean Capitol Banking Center in Wayne City, Ill., pointed a gun at the teller and demanded money lots of money. She obliged, as any good teller would do under similar circumstances.

This bank robber had thought about everything.

He produced a carefully worded and grammatically correct note demanding money. He had taken the license plates off his getaway vehicle and picked a bank where there were at least three major highways to make his getaway.

And whether the robber knew about it or not, he had also picked a small town whose police chief at the time was not permitted to carry a gun. Illinois State Police had revoked the chief's firearm owner's identification card until a pending criminal case was resolved.

The one thing he forgot was something to put the loot in. A plastic bread sack would have worked nicely, or perhaps a paper sack from a fast-food restaurant. Fumbling with wads of cash from the teller drawer, this hapless crook left a trail of currency out the front door to his getaway van. Cameras from inside the bank and the gas station across the street recorded this ill-prepared robber's escapade. To his credit though, he remains at large.

Then, there's the case of the guy who decided to burglarize the Golden Gate, Ill., post office last February. First, he quickly realized the burglary tools he brought for the job weren't sufficient to break into the post office safe.

Hence, he decided to burglarize a nearby grain elevator for bigger power tools to crack the safe.

That didn't work, so he burglarized a house, the Golden Gate Village Hall and a nearby church in search of bigger, more powerful safe-cracking tools.

At some point during the repeated attempts to crack the post office safe, this ill-prepared yeggler cut himself, leaving a trail of blood across the post office floor.

Apparently, he had seen one too many episodes of "CSI" and just knew the cops would be able to quickly identify him through the DNA from his blood.

The solution? Simple.

Burn the place down to cover up the blood evidence, which he admitted to investigators. The confession and subsequent guilty plea to arson and residential burglary charges netted this defendant seven years in prison for torching the post office and 10 years for breaking into places looking for burglary tools.

Did I mention that police tracked the defendant to each of burglary by footprints left in freshly fallen snow that trailed away from the post office?

I also forgot to mention that according to one police source, the burglar failed to notice a Post-It note stuck on the front of the safe that contained the combination to the safe. I doubt that these individuals had studied Occam's Razor in school that is, simple solutions to a problem are more likely to be correct than the complex ones.

The old rule of "plan ahead" may have also been helpful.

LOL! I was gonna go there. And then I chickened out at the last minute...

The second story reminds me a lot of the Iraq under Rumsfeld.

I say the same thing about cops, all the time. Just thing of the state trooper down in tennessee getting a little sex from a porn star, for a ticket, and taping the whole thing.

Its a hoot! Crime ought to be left to the pros.

Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." -Manuel II Paleologus

I like the ones where the bank robber writes the holdup note on the back of his own deposit slip, paycheck stub, or parole office letter.
