A little after 7 p.m. I was in was in my backyard being interviewed by two student film makers. We were surrounded by my seven German Shepherds and had been talking on camera for about a half hour when a shot rang out, then another, then another, about a second apart. The shots were coming from the southwest. The shots seemed to come from a location very nearby. I and the film makers heard bullets whistle over our heads. We immediately took cover behind my house. I began yelling at Star and her pups to come to me as I was afraid they would be shot.
After about a minute, we went into the house and I called the Border Patrol. I went into my front yard and waived so the Border Patrol camera on the tower just north of my house so it could see me. It did and I pointed in the direction of the shots. I then made contact with other ABP people and alerted them to the danger. (For security reason will not provide details of exactly what we did.) Fearing for their safety the film makers said they wanted to leave and asked if they could get an escort. I said none was available but that they could probably drive north in safety. I escorted them to their car and stood between them the likely location of the shots as they got into their car and left.
Shortly thereafter two Cochise County Sheriffs arrived and took a report. I gave them the contact information for the film makers.
During the interview with the sheriffs I got a call from a concerned citizen who asked if we had bullet-proof vests. I said no and asked the sheriffs if they did. One tapped on his shirt, making a loud sound signifying that he had a bullet-proof vest. The caller asked if we needed money to buy them. I said yes.
(Listening to the the Naco Border Patrol station radio traffic, I heard them refer to my ranch as a "Minuteman compound." I called the Naco station and told them I had nothing to do with the Minutemen and to stop referring to my ranch as a Minutemen compound. )
Having been up since 3:30 a.m. and having flown an early morning mission in the Border Hawk M, I went to bed about 8 p.m.
I have no idea who fired at me and the film makers.

I just happened to catch 30 seconds of President Bush’s speech today. He was in the middle of saying that it was better to have people crossing the borders with cards than without. We are in such deep trouble.
Not to worry, it was just Jorge’s guests celebrating their conquered new country.
