WASHINGTON -- The White House is starting to draw up a list of potential nominees to lead the World Bank, and former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, a heart surgeon who has traveled widely in Africa, is getting especially close scrutiny for the job.

Also receiving long looks are Treasury Deputy Secretary Robert Kimmitt and Robert Zoellick, the former U.S. trade representative now working at Goldman Sachs Group Inc., according to individuals familiar with White House deliberations.

Frist? Too many of these jobs go to politicians. I would appoint a banker—someone who has a clue as to what “credit risk” means.

Sort of reminds me of all the politicians they appointed to the 911 Commission. Lot of good that did. They should have appointed generals and law enforcement types.

Frist might be good since the WB needs a heart/lung/brain transplant.... but since no one will really be allowed to reform that cesspool it would be best to just shut it down.

Frist couldn’t act in our interest when he had a full majority of supporters. How do you think he will act when he is in the minority?
