I just used the number to contact my other senator, Isakson. To summarize the response from Chambliss’ office: this bill is going to pass and there is nothing Senator Chambliss can do about it.’ Summary of the response from Isakson’s lackey: ‘Why should you be offended that a Spanish-speaking number connected you directly to this office? English is not the only or even the official language of the US, you know.’ I wish I were making taht second part up, but it really happened. If there are any other residents of GA reading this thread, please contact Isakson’s office and suggest he become the newest Senator of the Great State of Mexico.
I just tried the number and got “Northern Plains Electric”.
Apparently, my Senators quickly put the brakes on a foreign government’s direct accessibility to them - I’d asked yesterday why the number worked and they had no idea, had no idea the number existed (or so claimed). I made the comment it was scary that a foreign government have access to United States Senators’ communications network and THEY had absolutely no clue. I remarked it doesn’t look good for national security....
I got through to Isakson’s office without even a ring.
The man answering the phones is a condesending twit who also would not believe there was such a thing as a toll free Mexican number.
After that phone call, I wouldn’t even vote for Isakson again if he backed off his support of this bill.
I just dialed back and got the same access to my sr. Senator’s office. The lady there claimed just as the gentleman did yesterday they had no idea of the number’s access, so I asked her if she’d mind trying and gave her the number. I repeated I thought it disturbing the Mexican government had access to their communications networks even Senators aren’t aware of.
I’ve left the conversation at that.
