No you are wrong. It means we want to be seen as equal to the elitist northeast. It means we don’t want to be called ignorant trash and dumb hillbillies with 2 teeth. It means our people are just as damn good as the rest of the country. The confederate flag is a symbol of southern pride, nothing more. Its hated by the north because they want to keep southerners inferior.
Well, I think that's a bit over-stated.
Southerners and Christians are the only groups who are not allowed to honor their heritage in this PC world. Every nation, religion, and ethnic group has a history of slavery and worse if you go far enough back.
Funny thing how there isn't any Northern pride or any Northern flag.
If I mention segregation, slavery, lynching, Dixiecrats, or terrorist organizations like the KKK, southerners get all red-faced and their panties in a bunch and want to start the war all over again. Some of you say I need a history lesson. Well, until you can demonstrate to me what the heck "southern pride" is in real terms that don't involve eating BBQ, listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd, or anybody remotely involving the movie Deliverance, my impression is that You People still have a major PR problem.
