Yep, that’s why most place sell snacks and soft drinks as that is the best way to make money off of selling gas.
I feel bad for this guy.
Sounds like the credit card industry is cleaning up.
Now I don’t feel guilty for paying my balance each month.
Sounds like the old “chain store” argument. Independents cannot match economies of scale when selling a commodity product.
So cut the price 15 cents a gallon for cash purchases. Sales will increase, it'll put pressure on MC, and the increased cash sales might have {cough, cough} positive tax benefits.
In order for gas prices to be lower, demand must change as it tends to be inelastic.
Supply must also be increased the left is against this method.
There’s a small gas station near where I live that has stopped selling gas.
Funny, Wisconsin state law requires that stations markup gas by 9.18%.
Believe me, they sell gasoline only to bring in folks who buy other retail items. Beer, cigarettes and soda being some of the largest selling items.
When stations stopped offering full service, gas prices came down and the old fashion service stations folded. You can pull into a Jiffy Lube for an oil change or a convenience store for a fill-up, while getting a six-pack on your way home from work.
This has put the true problem into the open. When you start your car this morning, realize that your mobility depends not on BIG oil, BIG shipping, BIG refining, or BIG transportation. It depends on the willingness and ability of SMALL business to operate that gas station that keeps your car going. Any system that makes it more profitable to STOP selling a product will get just what it deserves..no product sold or available. The oil companys’ have profits much less than the tax revenue that accrues to the government(s), but the yelling is at the oil producers. Go ahead, yell at the local seller of gas, insult him, vilify the little guy, then swivel your neck looking for him when the gas pumps are SHUT OFF. You’ll have gasoline for only so long as someone is willing to sell it. This is how they make their living, it is not a hobby.
I noticed that at my local station, cigarette prices jumped recently, so their margins on fuel must really be getting squeezed. (unfortunately, they also switched from Marathon to Citgo, so I can’t buy my fuel there now anyway).
Odd the JS left out what their sister TV Station WTMJ reported. He only stopped selling his gas FDR 24 hours as a protest or so they reported at 8 AM this morning. Also just repeated at 9:28 am
That is the station in Mequon and then they are also running a clip about cheating at the pumps

It is time for merchants to give a discount to customers who pay cash. Otherwise, they should stop whining about credit card companies.
My local service station owner says he makes nothing on the gasoline, which I believe. The gasoline is a convenience for his regular customers, who get their car service from him and he can do most car repairs. I continue to buy my six gallons a month from him rather than go down the street to the 7-Eleven because he is a local businessman and provides full car service. The price difference of 25 cents is not worth dropping my support.
And he was working for a silent partner, the partner who tells him what to do and makes more work for him, but doesn’t lift a finger to help out with the work. The partner who doesn’t change the oil, put air in the tires or sweep the floor. The blooming GOVERNMENT which has its hand out and takes its cut right from the top, and doesn’t care if you make money or lose money.
Sad fact is the distributors are trying to charge $3.44 a gallon while the spot price is $2.2288 per gallon (NY Harbor, 5/22/07). Federal gas tax is $.184 and Wisconsin is what, $.329? That adds up to $2.74. Even at the worst spot prices this past month, you’re looking at about $3.06.
So even if the spot price dropped to $.3003 per gallon as it was on Dec 24, 1998, they would be looking to charge the stations $1.63 a gallon.
On 12/24/98, average prices were about $1.01 a gallon.
In other words, someone (and not the station) is making a LOT more than they used to after the actual refining of gas.
