TORONTO, Canada (AP) -- A 14-year-old student was shot and killed at a Toronto high school Wednesday, forcing frightened teens to stay in their locked-down classrooms for hours as police searched the building into the evening.
Police said it was not a situation in which a gunman was roaming the halls, but it was not known if the gunman was still in the school as the search began. The students finally were released just before 6 p.m., more than three hours after the lockdown.
Police said there were no arrests and no weapon had been found in the shooting at C.W. Jefferys Collegiate Institute, which followed eight school bomb scares last week in a country that prides itself on its low crime rate.

They are so violent in Canada; it must be the socialism and Bryan Adams.
Glad that 2 billion dollar gun registry prevented this from happenning.
No, no, no, this couldn’t happen there. Canada has such strict gun control, it just couldn’t happen. Don’t you know that?? < /s >
Yep. Just like everywhere else. The honest citizens comply with registration and the criminals don’t. Surprise, surprise!
I thought guns had been illegalized and outlawed in Canada. How did anyone get into the school with one? Don’t they know that is grounds for detention or posssibly expulsion?
Still lots of rifles and shotguns up here. Handguns require a lot more hoops to jump through, but they’re obtainable for the law-abiding. The black market, here as in the States, is always booming. You want it bad enough, you’ll get it.
LOL on Bryan Adams comment.
So much for the effectiveness of gun control.
What’s cool about firearms in Canada is if a company makes a shotgun with a 10” barrel and you have your little piece of paper, you can buy short barrel shotguns without those retarded tax stamps...
Well, this is a pity.
But if the people of Canada wish to be disarmed, becoming so many sheep susceptible to being led to the slaughter by noncompliant lawbreakers, that is a decision that they get to make in their own country.
Gloating over this lacks, among other things, style. We should offer our sympathies, and let it go at that.
They’ll figure it out on their own, sooner or later.
Nope. Smug self-righteousness and Burton Cummings.
I just came from Toronto, everyone was peaceful and friendly. Seriously.
Yeah, you have to travel all the way out to Mississaugua (about 30 mins outside of Toronto) to find the muzzies who plan terrorist attacks on Ottawa.
I wonder how they can say that. They don't seem to know anything else about the crime either.
