Looks like homosexuality is not only accepted but embraced in todays society. Something that has the potential to destroy our society being so embraced, and calling the people who disagree with this destructive behavior wrong, is disturbing.
I think we have a lot bigger problems in society than homosexuality.
Either way, Nobody is embracing homosexuality in this thread - just because Dick Cheney supports the choices his daughter has made, or even supports the ability for her to marry another woman, doesn't mean he's going to dump his wife and start living with another man.
I've heard people in the past say Dick Cheney is evil and anti-Christian because he supports his daughter and supports gay marriage - I'm not saying you are saying he's evil, but I'm mentioning what others have said, because I think they are missing one key thing - it's okay to love the sinner and not love the sin. Would Dick Cheney prefer his daughter be married to a man instead of living with a woman? Probably. Does he think any less of her because of her choice of a woman as a partner? Apparently not, based on the father-daughter relationship they have.

You are being dramatic. No one thinks he should disown her. Just not condone her lifestyle.
To: Burkean
I dont think Dick Cheney supports homosexual marriage.
I don't have his comments handy, but other FReepers have posted them, if not in this thread, then others. He's made it clear that he would like for his daughter to be able to marry her partner. I don't understand it, but I don't have a child like his daughter, so I don't try and judge to harshly.

After reading through this thread I have two things to say.
1) I’m happy for Mary Cheney and her entire family.
2) While I do believe homosexuality is a sin, it’s not up to me to judge, they, like all the rest of us here, have to answer for our sins. I think the worst thing in the world would be for Jesus to say, “I know ye not”

I disagree with you. I think homosexuality is a choice. If it was not a choice, then God would not have condemned it."
God condemns alot of things...but he also taught us to hate the sin, and love the sinner.
I don't believe in persecuting homosexuals.

They are 1 man and 1 woman and they are married. Just the way God intended. Like it or not, God set about a natural order of things that were designed to work. If the world would follow the plan God had for man, the world would run smoothly. Its when man deviates from Gods plan, that things go wrong.

Of course it is. You still love your child but that doesnt mean you have to accept or embrace their lifestyle.
I can't speak for Cheney, but I think that if he rejected her lifestyle, he would be rejecting her. You and I may find her choices disturbing to say the least, but neither of us has had to face what he and his wife have had to face.
A lot of politicians would have tried to cover up who and what she is. Cheney has always stood by her. It takes a lot of inner strength to do something like that, especially being a Republican, and knowing the kind of criticism you would face. Most politicians are cowardly when it comes to hiding things that their potential voters may not like.
Dick Cheney has said "this is my daughter, I love her, I support her". I give the man a lot of credit for that.

This is exactly what I have been trying to say. But there have been people in this thread who take that to mean we think Cheney should publicly stone Mary. No one has said that. I agree with you. Love the sinner but hate the sin.

Congratulations to the Vice President and his family!Ditto!

I couldnt agree more. This is the life they’ve chosen. None of us has any right to pass judgement on them. They are doing no harm to me, or my children.
They have been in a longer relationship than most people going out and getting pregnant.
I never quite understood the fear of a “gay agenda.” If you aren’t gay, they are not going to “recruit” you.
Live and let live. A baby is a gift from God. I am happy for them.
(PS to those who are about the flame me: Dont go all whole hog on my because of the Vermont LT thing. It has to do with military school, not that I have been immersed in the Vermont Culture.)

I think you can love your child without accepting what she does.

That might be more accurate for male homosexuals, but female homosexuals have relationships similar in duration to those of heterosexuals and are highly monogamous.
Inaccurate opinions should be given the boot when they don’t correspond to reality.

You don't think so? What about the schools who are actively pushing the gay lifestyle on children as young as kindergarten and punishing children for hate crimes who do not embrace it. What about schools where they have made 10 year olds spend a day pretending to be gay. And where they have encouraged same sex touching and kissing in the public schools. Go to a gay pride parade and then say they aren't harming anyone.

People on this thread tend to be long on opinion and short on data. Demographically lesbians have relationships similar in duration to that of heterosexuals and tend highly towards monogamy. This is to be expected since in general women tend to prefer stable monogamous relationships.

I would add that it is not too late for Mary to do right by her child. She can bring him up without the exposure to and normalization of homosexuality. I would applaud that. But clearly Mary does not plan to put the child’s interests ahead of her own.
