AB 1471 REQUIRES MICROSTAMPING OF PISTOL CHAMBERS
AB 1471, sponsored by Assemblyman Mike Feuer (D-West Hollywood), would amend the current handgun safety act by requiring the chambers of all semi-automatic pistols sold in the state to have a unique serial number etched into the pistols chamber. Upon firing, the number would be imprinted on the cartridge case, thus allowing police to track the case back to the firearms registered owner.
Sounds like a simple, common sense crime-fighting tool, however Most firearms used by criminals are stolen, and criminals dont bother to register stolen guns. In fact, criminals are exempt from firearm registration by a U.S. Supreme Court decision (U.S. v Haynes, 1968). In addition to that, the technology is easily defeated in a number of ways: the etching can be marred or ground out, brass picked up at a firing range can be reloaded and used, steel cased-ammunition wont take the imprint, etc.
This questionable and unproven technology is just another attempt to limit access to affordable handguns by gun control extremists in the state legislature. Industry sources estimate this will add as much as $150 to the cost of each handgun with microstamping. Where will it stop? Microstamping the chambers of ALL firearms next? What about revolvers? A $900 additional charge to stamp each separate chamber?
AB 1471 may come up for Assembly floor action as soon as Thursday, May 24th. You need to contact your Assemblyman or Assemblywoman ASAP and ask them to oppose this meaningless and wasteful legislation. If you have internet access, you can reach your Assemblyman at http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/yourleg.html
Your legislators telephone numbers are listed in the blue Government pages at the front of the telephone directory, under State Government.

Think what they could do if they devoted this energy to tracking illegal aliens. Maybe micro stamping illegals would work, but I bet an ID card that you couldn’t buy for $10 on the street would be a step up. Or maybe a fence here and there ...
Such a waste
There's just too much to say ...
Wait until they start tracing all these casings from crime sites back to law enforcement officers — it would be almost funny if it wasn’t so serious.
Wow like that would not be hard to remove. Don’t you people have anything better to do, like gay pride parades?
Plus, the cop’s guns would only get microstamp when the department replaces a handgun with a new one.
Likewise the other millions of civilian handguns- the microstamping would only come with a new one.
Unless they make it illegal to have a non-microstamped gun, but I don’t think that would pass.
And lets not forget that some scrap dealers sell tons of empty fired brass to professional reloaders. You can buy it at many gun stores. Just look at the headstamps on many of these reloaded fifty round boxes and you will see why micro stamping is like chasing a dream. It won’t work.
Somebody’s been watching too much Judge Dredd.
Unlike Lee Harvey, I would take my shell casings with me.
Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." -Manuel II Paleologus
Upon voting for a Democrat, the letter “S” would be permanently embossed upon the finger.
